Nancy Ramey Obituary

NANCY LEE RAMEY

July 2, 1946 ~ August 23, 2025

Nancy Lee Ramey was born in Vancouver, WA to George L. and Judith A. Ramey.

Nancy attended Hudson's Bay High School, and, in 1964, she began a three-year enlistment in the Army with her sister, Rose. Nancy's service was cut short, but she considered her time in the Army as one of the most influential times of her life, serving both in the US and in Germany. After leaving the service, she worked in several customer service jobs. Writing and editing played a significant role throughout her professional and volunteer careers. She wrote and edited for The Progress, the student newspaper for Clark College, and as a leader in the Cascade Council of Camp Fire. She volunteered as editor for the community center at the Vancouver Housing Authority. Nancy served in several volunteer roles, including with a board focusing on housing issues at the VHA, which included attending a national housing conference in Atlanta, GA.

She was a very creative person. Nancy made everything from craft art to practical items like reusable cloth diapers and plastic bag holders. She was also an organizer, arranging for potluck gatherings at her apartment complex and family reunions.

Nancy married and divorced twice but chose to live most of her life on her own. She had one son, Jody John Ramey, whom she loved dearly.

Nancy is survived by her sister, Rose, and her brothers, Dave and Joe, as well as her son, Jody, his wife, Emilia, and their two children, John and Margaret.

A remembrance ceremony for Nancy will be held October 10, at 9:30 a.m., at St. James Catholic Church, 218 W 12th St., Vancouver, WA 98660.
