Nancy A. Stains

Nancy A. Stains, 88, of Lewistown, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, November 25, 2025. Born February 1, 1937, in Mifflin County, she was the daughter of the late James C. and Phronie (Paul) Wray. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, James C. Wray, Jr., Gerald Wray, Elmer Wray, Leon Wray, Shirley Hook, and Betty Ishler. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Nancy is survived by her devoted husband, James E. Stains, with whom she shared 70 years of marriage, having been united in marriage on November 12, 1955. She is also lovingly remembered by her daughter, Kristie J. Ruff and husband, Michael, of McVeytown; her son, James P. "Jim" "Jamie" Stains and wife, Melissa, of Lewistown; her cherished grandchildren, Seth D. Stains and wife, Angela, of Lewistown, Zackery J. Stains, of Lewistown, Molly J. Ank, of Bloomsburg, and Shane Ank, of Maryland; as well as her treasured great-grandchildren, Zoey R. Stains, Adalyn J. Stains, and Ariyan W. Ank. A woman of steadfast faith, Nancy was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses at the age of 12 and remained a loyal member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Lewistown throughout her life. Early in her career, she was employed by Russell National Bank in Lewistown. Later, she found passion and purpose as a skilled seamstress and, together with her husband, operated a successful crafting business. Nancy took joy in creating beautiful handmade items-whether woodwork, home décor, or personalized gifts-which brought happiness to many families. She also cherished time spent with those she loved most, often sharing her talents in the kitchen through baking and canning for her family. Per her wishes, all services will be private.
