Nancy Lawson Thornton

North Augusta, SC-Funeral Services for Mrs. Nancy Lawson Thornton, 87, who entered into rest December 7, 2025, will be conducted Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Posey Funeral Chapel with Rev. Roy Kiser and Rev. David Sons officiating. Interment will follow in Pineview Memorial Park.

A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Nancy's life was a reflection of her deep faith and sacrificial love for others. Nancy was born on January 8, 1938 in Knoxville, TN. She graduated from Carson Newman University in 1960, majoring in Home Economics. Nancy was married for 60 years to her beloved husband, Bill Thornton, who preceded her in death five years ago. She was a nurturing homemaker, cultivating a warm and loving home for her family. A faithful believer, Nancy served humbly at Central Baptist Church in Oak Ridge and later at First Baptist Church of North Augusta. Whether helping with the Wednesday night kitchen crew or preparing Christmas boxes for families in need, she served with a gentle spirit and steadfast devotion. Nancy's greatest joy came from her family. She faithfully hosted Sunday lunch for her children and grandchildren for decades, a tangible expression of her deep-seated hospitality. She was present for both momentous and mundane moments in her children's and grandchildren's lives. Nancy and Bill prioritized intentional time with their growing family by hosting an annual gathering in Hilton Head Island, affectionately referred to as "Partywave." She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, presence, and humble service that shapes the lives of all who knew her.

Survivors include two sons, Tom (Caryn) Thornton, Carol Stream, IL and Tim (Jane) Thornton, North Augusta, SC; a daughter, Traci (Kyle) Smith, North Augusta, SC; 11 cherished grandchildren, Megan (Aaron) Lynch, Katie Thornton, Kelly (Michael) McCraith, Curtis (Gillian) Thornton, Nathan (Kimberly) Thornton, Kip (Eli Kate) Thornton, Abby (Braydon) Farmer, Taylor (Luke) Francis, Logan (Charlie) Green, Luke Smith and Jack Smith; 9 great-grandchildren who brought her immeasurable joy.

Pallbearers will be Curtis Thornton, Nathan Thornton, Luke Smith, Kip Thornton, Jack Smith, Luke Francis, Charlie Green, and Braydon Farmer.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday afternoon from 4 until 6.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to the staff at NHC for their compassionate care of Nancy.
