Nancy J. Van Pelt 1946 -2018 Gastonia – Miss Nancy Jean Van Pelt, 72 graduated to her heavenly life on February 7th to reunite with her family and friends, and beloved God. Nancy's adorable parents, James A. and Rosella Lawing Van Pelt and her beloved sisters, Tommie V. Brown and Ann V. Miller are already enjoying their heavenly life, and now are enjoying their cherished reunion with Nancy. Nancy's mother 'Rose' was the "love" of Nancy's earthly life. The following family members remain to remember and cherish the memories of their very close attachment to Nancy: her brother, Jim Van Pelt and sister-in-law, Sandra Van Pelt; nephew, Greg Van Pelt and wife Leigh; niece, Holly Hite and husband Danny; niece, Tammy Oakley and husband Doug; niece, Melanie James and her husband, Robert; niece, Kellie Pope and husband Jeff; niece, Dawn Denning and husband Carsie; nephew, Tim Brown; niece, Christy Gates; niece, Ashlee Hartman and husband Fred. Nancy considered her nieces and nephews as her "children" and additionally she considered the remaining (20) great nieces and nephews as they were born as her "grandchildren". Nancy was adored by her immediate and extended families; her many friends, especially the "6 Girls of the 60's"; and her beloved church family at her lifelong church, First Baptist Church of Cramerton. Nancy faithfully served her precious God and church family. She served as a Sunday School teacher, Mission Friend Leader, a very dedicated Homebound Ministry Team Member; and a devoted member of the Finance Committee. Nancy was most kind, very generous and was applauded by her family and friends for her gifted "business savvy". Nancy was the Corporate Benefits Manager for Performance Contracting Group, nationally and internationally, for in excess of 25 years, retiring in 2010. Nancy was a generous helper and assisted all with much dedication regardless of the matter. We will miss Nancy tremendously; however we will always have her earthly life legacy and will always celebrate her heavenly life. The family will receive friends Saturday, February 10th from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m., in the Sanctuary prior to Nancy's Celebration of Life Service at 2:00 p.m., at First Baptist Church of Cramerton, 235 8th Avenue, Cramerton, NC 28032 with the Reverend Sammy Oxendine officiating. I worked with Nancy at PCG and she was the nicest and most genuine person I have ever met. I loved hearing her stories about the ladies of the 60's and all of her stories of her brother with the furniture store and her nephew. When my co-workers in Kansas City would ask what Nancy was like, I would tell them she is what you would think about when you think about a Southern Woman, sweater around her shoulders and even said "Bless her heart!" She was such a big part of my start at PCG. I am very saddened to hear of her passing. I am praying for all of her family that loved her dearly.

Nancy was the most precious person to me. She impacted my life in so many ways. Every niece should as fortunate as me. I loved coming to visit as a child and I continued this as an adult. We'd watch Hallmark, go to the fish camp, relax and talk about all the beautiful memories of our family and how much we were blessed. Tell my mom, dad, husband and aunts and uncles I said hello. I will always cherish her memory,

Nancy was our neighbor for 8 years when we lived across the street from her. She was such a wonderful neighbor. She would call and tell us she was glad to see we were home from a long trip or she would say I was always welcome to come over when she saw Bill was working late. She was always looking out for us. The day we moved to Europe, she invited us over to her house while the movers emptied our house. It was such a kind gesture because it was an emotional time for us and it was wonderful to have a friend to talk to instead of waiting around as our house was emptied. We were blessed to go back for a couple visits since we moved 5 years ago, and Nancy's smiling face was always there to greet us. She was so very, very happy to meet our beautiful daughter and couldn't stop telling us how proud she was of us. She was truly a blessing in our life. She made us feel at home in our first house and I will never forget her smiling face and true southern hospitality. I called my mom to tell her of Nancy's passing and my mom, who only met her once, remembered her and said was a nice lady she was. That is the impact Nancy had on people.

I write this with tears in my eyes. Nancy was always my hero. Such a great role model. I cant think of First Baptist without thinking of her. Im sure we kept her on her toes in Sunday School. I hope she knew how much we loved her. We need more Nancy Van Pelts in this world. My thought will be with the family. Thank you for sharing Nancy with us.

I worked with Nancy back in the 70s and 80s as a manager in Burlington IT across the hall from the office that she shared with Kay Long. We were in the front offices of the police department at the building near Main Street in Cramerton NC. She was a saintly lady and I know that the good Lord has received a wonderful angel.
