Nancy D. Hughes Wickwire
September 23rd, 1949 – June 30th, 2022

Nancy D. Hughes Wickwire, 72, of Florence, AL, passed away on June 30, 2022. Nancy was a 1967 graduate of V.I.T. High School and a 1971 graduate of Western Illinois University in Macomb, IL. During summer breaks, she served as a hospital aide.

Upon graduation from college and certified as an elementary school teacher, she taught school for many years. In later years, she served as a Census Enumerator, Director of a day care and later served in Florence City Schools in Title 1, Reading and mathematics.

She held leadership positions in the P.E.O. Sisterhood, Chapter S, Alabama for 10 years. She was in the choir for about 20 years at Westminster Presbyterian Church and helped with church dinners. She also enjoyed singing with the Mother Singers. She had a deep love of music and she played the piano since childhood. She was a volunteer at the Help Center and Safeplace.

Survivors include her loving husband, Charles Wickwire; children, Stacy (and Greg) Morris, Sarah (and Berry) Allen, and James Wickwire; grandchildren, Jacob and Aiden Morris; sister Connie (and Randy) Connour; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Janice K. Fisk and Phillip Batterton.

A graveside service will be held at 1 pm on August 16, 2022 at the Ipava Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Safeplace in Florence, AL or to Cottey College in Nevada, MO.
