Nancy Wiggins Obituary

Published by Legacy on Mar. 6, 2026.
Nancy Elizabeth Wiggins, (Matthews), passed away peacefully at home on March 1, 2026, with her children, Kari and Dave, by her side.

Nancy grew up in the Linden Hills neighborhood and graduated from Southwest High School. Nancy was a lifelong learner who earned master's degrees in history, social work, and business administration. Throughout her life she was guided by a deep curiosity about the world and a genuine care for others. She learned Spanish in order to communicate with her neighbors and their children. After retiring, she continued to share her kindness by volunteering with Travelers Assistance, where she loved meeting new people and helping those in need.

Nancy found great joy in life's simple and meaningful moments. Nancy and Vern were avid travelers who carried their special spirit of fun and adventure wherever they went. They shared a love of music, with Nancy trying her hand at multiple instruments in an effort to keep up with Vern's musical expertise.

At home, she spent many happy hours knitting and crocheting, creating countless handmade Christmas gifts for her family-scarves, hats, and her lovingly named "warmer uppers"-each one made with care and affection.

Nancy took great pride in walking "two miles a day," often making her way around Lake Harriet, Wood Lake Nature Center, and the Mall of America. In the past two years, Nancy experienced a gradual decline in her physical and cognitive health. She continued these walks with Kari and Dave, creating special moments together. She loved the time with her children and grandchildren, and she was deeply loved by her family.

Nancy shared wonderful advice with her daughter during the challenges of raising children. Her philosophy was simple: "No matter what, Just love them." Those words were both inspiring and a reflection of the way she lived her life.

Nancy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Vern Bloom; her parents, Kay and Morrie Matthews; and her siblings, Terry and Steve.

She is survived by her children, Dave (Lisa) and Kari (Scott); and her cherished grandchildren, Jordan (Sophie), Bennett (Jamie), Casey, and Brady. Her family will remember her warmth, generosity, and the love she wove into every part of their lives.

The family is planning a private celebration of Nancy's life this summer.
