Nancy L. Wilson, 92, of Wheaton passed away on Sunday, December 28, 2025, surrounded by family.
She was born on March 27, 1933, in Milwaukee to Thomas and Zenabe Linton. The family moved to
Wellesley, MA when she was nine. It was there she met Dave Wilson, whom she wed on October 23, 1954. They first lived in
Montvale, NJ where Dan was born. In 1957, they moved to
Park Forest, IL, where Laura was born.
In 1961, the family put down roots on Indiana Street. It was on a block of ranch homes and bungalows built after World War Two inhabited by the families of the "Greatest Generation". It was here they completed their family with Tom and Cindy and lived most of the story that we all remember. And now some 64 years later, she was literally the last of that storied generation on the block. But the Christmas Eve luminaries and Fourth of July block parties have been safely passed down to a new generation of caretakers.
While her "main job" was always keeping things running smoothly on the homefront, she did work for years at Kay Howard in downtown Wheaton and was made manager, of which she remained proud. But what she was most proud of was her family. She loved becoming "Grammy" to ten grandchildren, and then "GiGi" to three great-grandchildren. She took great interest in all of her grandchildren, loved watching them all grow up, and loved texting and Facetiming with them all. She treasured family gatherings, particularly the joyful noise of Christmas morning, where twenty-some family members would squeeze into her modest living room already overflowing with presents to celebrate, laugh, and overflow the recycling bin. It was fitting that for her last Christmas at home, every single member of her family was in attendance.
Her yard was a beautiful testament to her love of gardening. She was a lifelong avid reader and as the times changed, she insisted on continuing to get the Sunday newspaper delivered, just for the crosswords.
She loved watching tennis and discussing matches with her girls. She loved General Hospital and All My Children, for which she and her daughters had a watch party for its final episode. And she loved detective shows, especially with Tom Selleck.
She loved knitting and her afghans are legendary. Her cross-stitch pieces have become family treasures. And friends and family alike knew to stop by the cookie jar in her kitchen for her fabulous chocolate chip cookies.
And she leaves us with one last request did anyone lock the back door?
She is survived by her four children, Dan (Emily) of Newark, OH; Laura (Jerry) Kolb of Peoria; Tom (Holly) Wilson of Wheaton; Cindy (Terry) Meier of Naperville; and grandchildren David (JJ) Wilson, Marci (Sam) Stitt, Cooper Wilson, Kasey (Tyler) Merritt, Matthew Meier, Patrick Meier, Melanie Meier, Natalie Meier, Molly Wilson, and Charlie Wilson; and three great grandchildren Guy Wilson, Leo Wilson, and Thomas Stitt; and nieces and nephews; as well as ten granddogs and great-granddogs. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dave, her sister Patty Netzow, and her brother Tom Linton.
A celebration of life will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church in Wheaton at noon on Saturday, January 31, 2026. Visitation will be one hour prior. Williams Kampp Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church "Chapel Trust" or
