Lexington, North Carolina - On December 11, 2025, Nancy Miller Wright died at home following a 4 1/2-year battle with metastatic pancreatic cancer. She was 78 years old.
Nancy was the daughter of Ruth and Henry Miller of Lexington, NC. She was married for 55 years to Dr. Gordon Wright, also of Lexington. Surviving are a brother, H. Thomas Miller and his wife Carolyn of Durham, NC; two daughters, Mrs. Amy Wright Hill, and husband Mark, of Durham, NC, and Mrs. Jacqueline Wright Schechter, and husband Drew, of Apex, NC. She also leaves behind four adoring grandchildren, Thomas and Eleanor Hill and Elyse and Zoe Schechter.
Nancy's life was spent in service as a teacher of special needs students, as a volunteer at Lexington Memorial Hospital's cancer center following her own battle with breast cancer in 1987, and as a member of the board of advisors of the Duke Cancer Institute and the Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke University.
The family will have a private service.
Memorials in Nancy's memory can be made to the laboratories and research of Dr. Peter Allen, Dr. Gerard Blobe, and Dr. Jason Somarelli, all of Duke Cancer Institute. Dear Gordon,
This sad news about Nancy caught me by surprise because I had not heard about her most recent health issue. I would have been in contact sooner if I had known. Nancy was so passionate and strong-a role model for all of us in our battles against breast cancers. As my lifetime friends --both of you make me and everyone in your vast circle of friends proud for all you have done to help others. Please continue to dwell on all of the happy memories you´ve created over all of the decades you´ve shared as partners and best friends. Sending love and deepest sympathies from Tom and me in Nashville where we´re spending the Christmas holiday with Mary Craven and her family ,
