In Loving Memory of Nannette Ann Vendal "Dodie"
Nannette Ann Vendal, affectionately known as Dodie, peacefully departed this world on February 11, 2024, surrounded by the love of her family. For 48 years, she shared a profound and enduring love with her devoted husband, Larry, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew her.
Born in Detroit, Dodie's life was a testament to warmth, kindness, and unwavering love. Larry, her loving husband, survives her, as do her children Erica (Scott) Chekaway, Matthew (Amber), and Luke, along with her cherished grandchildren, Jack and Cameron. Dodie was also a steadfast sister to Donald (Helen) Clos and a beloved cousin to Cindy and Nancy.
Dodie embarked on her professional journey at Michigan Bell, where her strong work ethic and dedication were evident. However, her true calling unfolded when she embraced the roles of devoted wife, loving mother, and doting grandmother. Dodie's home became a sanctuary of warmth, laughter, and treasured moments, a reflection of her boundless love and nurturing spirit.
Dodie enjoyed her annual trips up north to Mackinac Island and the Upper Peninsula with her family. She always found peace and calm at The Cross in the Woods in Indian River, Michigan where her name has resided on a brick outside in front of the cross for many years. Dodie was affectionately known as Gubby to her two grandchildren whom she spent countless hours with since the day they were born. Dodie was a devoted Catholic, she prayed the Rosary every single day for those that she loved or anyone who needed extra prayers.
Family and friends are invited to honor Dodie's memory during the visitation at the O'Brien Sullivan Funeral Home, 41555 Grand River, Novi, on Friday, March 8, 2024, from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A rosary ceremony will be held at 6:00 pm, a fitting tribute to Dodie's unwavering faith and spirituality.
Visitation will be held at St. Sabina Church, 25555 Ann Arbor Trail, Dearborn Heights 48127, starting at 10:30 am on Saturday, March 9, 2024, with the funeral Mass commencing at 11:00 am. Dodie will find her final resting place at the Great Lakes National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations in memory of Dodie be directed to the St. Vincent DePaul Society, www.svdpdetroit.org a cause that held a special place in her heart.
Dodie's legacy of love, compassion, and commitment to family values will forever resonate in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known her. May she rest in peace, and may her radiant spirit continue to shine brightly in the cherished memories of those who loved her.
