Naomi Avery

Naomi Jean Ulrich Avery, 99, of Johnstown went to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 9, 2025, She had been of recent times under the watchful care of the Wells Nursing Home and Sarah Jane Sanford Home for Women in Amsterdam.
Naomi was born to Elizabeth Flint Ulrich Van Zandt and Charles Ulrich on February 24, 1926 in Gloversville and graduated from Gloversville High School in the Class of 1944 when she was awarded the Best Girl Athlete of her class and was active in school musicals. After high school she attended Gloversville Business School on East State Street and used her secretarial skills in various local business places over the years including Cole's Colonial Furniture in Johnstown.
In August of 1947, she married Franklin Seth Avery at Emmanuel Baptist Church where was she was a member from her first year in the cradle roll until her death. She proudly noted that she held the church membership record. Naomi loved the Bible, taught Sunday School and supported Frank's efforts as a deacon and trustee. She served as a Girl Scout Leader and an advocate for athletics at the YMCAs in both Johnstown and Gloversville. Those who knew her found her a friendly, thoughtful, outgoing individual. She was one who cared for others, loved animals, plants, and music, played a good bridge game, and supported local causes as well as missionaries and charities.
Naomi is survived by her daughter Barbara Walker of Hightstown, NJ; her son Bruce Avery and his wife Karen Avery of West Dover, Vermont; grandchildren Kyle and his wife Daley Avery of Norwalk CT; Jeffrey, Rachel, Henry and Silas Walker of Boulder, CO. and Kerry Walker and Justin, Sylvia, and Oakes Chapman of Huntington, VT.
Rev. Peter Ellis will conduct a Memorial Service on November 15, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the Emmanuel Baptist Church, 12 James Street Gloversville.
Internment will be at Fern Dale Cemetery following the service.
Memorial donations in Naomi's memory may be made to Emmanuel Baptist Church or Meals on Wheels c/o Office for the Aging in Johnstown.
