Where do you begin to sum up the life of one of the most amazing women that ever lived? Born July 2, 1938 in Charleston West Virginia to Clinton and Eufa Hudson, one of nine children, she spoke with much fondness of growing up “out on the ridge”. It was a loving family that remained close into adulthood. From an early age Naomi would have a vibrant faith in Christ that she passed on to her family.
After graduating high school she began working at Commonwealth Loans. Later she met and married James Arnold McCracken in 1958. Moved into a small apartment and began a lifelong romance. Naomi told the story of when she made waffles and they stuck to the waffle iron. Jim didn’t mind, he ate the waffles off the iron.
August 16, 1959 brought the arrival of Nora Ann, who because of her dark complexion Arnold McCracken, Jim’s dad, called her his little papoos. Rita Gay followed in 1962. After moving to Florida in 1964,Jim took a job at Pratt Whitney Aircraft. Timothy Arnold followed in 1965.
Naomi would spend the next 16 years as a stay at home mom to three of the most fortunate kids in the world. Spending sleepless nights caring for them and their various ailments including meningitis and a ruptured appendix. Naomi also was a part time catcher when Tim couldn’t find one.
She returned to the workplace as a legal secretary in 1981. She would work there until she retired and she moved from Jupiter Florida to Hohenwald Tennessee. Naomi lived there until her health made it necessary to move to an assisted care facility where she passsed away on December 2025.
