Natale Giorno

Natale Giorno, formerly of Oak Street, Westerly, passed away at the Westerly Health Center on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, months shy of his 100th birthday. He was the devoted husband for 75 years of the late Maria (Luzzi) Giorno, who predeceased Natale in May of 2020.

Born in San Giorgio Albanese, Calabria, Italy, he was the son of the late Nunziato and Rosaria Giorno (nee Lombardo.)

Before immigrating to the United States in 1968, Natale served with the Italian Army during WWII. He worked for Westerly Public Works Dept. for many years until his retirement and was a longtime communicant of Immaculate Conception Church.

He was an avid gardener and always purposely planted more than he needed so that he could share with family and friends. He loved passing on the family recipes for his cheeses, and the time-honored tradition of making soppressata "supi", to his family and friends.
He was happiest when he could spend time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He leaves behind his sons, Giorgio Giorno (Carmela) and Antonio Giorno (Karen) of Westerly, and Cosmo Giorno (Merri) of Pawcatuck; eight cherished grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, April 28 from 4-7pm at Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am on Saturday, April 29th at Immaculate Conception Church, 111 High St., Westerly. There is no procession from the funeral home to church.
