I just learned of Nate´s passing and I was very sad. I live in Las Vegas and I met Nate through Merryhill preschool . My son was in a summer camp there and the guy got Nate come in as a special guest. My son did not know who he was. He was just hitting fifth grade in ending fifth grade and he was already in Peccole weird on league, Little League and they were playing baseball, and Nate brought my son over to him.. he asked him his name and my son of course was an all because this was a major league baseball player and that was his dream. When my husband went to pick them up, they went over to my husband and told him that he saw something special in my son, and he would like to take them under his wing and I thought that was so awesome. So for two years, Nate taught my son hitting, catching, grounding field balls he used to tell stories to him about all of you know Hank, Aaron and Willie Randolph, and he was just a very big mentor to my son , and I will never ever forget him or just the passion that he and Rich to my son for baseball he was a wonderful man, and I am honored that I got to meet him and spend those times with him, and that my son most of all everything got to hear all of those stories, the baseball stories of him banging into Willie Randolph on 2nd base and willy Randolph´s knees blew out knee blew out how he went down to Florida and help the Yankees organization when I was Rodriguez was there and were huge Yankee fans, and so it was just a thrill and an honor and I´m very sad that he had passed I sent all my condolences to his family, his wife, his children we´ve lost a very good soul in this world but he´s up here watching us all and probably waiting for opening day. .

Saw Nate play several times, when the Padres visited Dodger Stadium in the late '60s and early '70s. Nate put up some impressive power numbers, during that period. A bonafide All Star, and a marquee player in the Padres early years. The fact he is still the Padres all time HR leader, given he played his home games in a pitcher's park and during a pitching-heavy era, is evidence of Nate's greatness.

Safe at home, Nate. It was a joy to watch you play.
