Nathan Lauer Obituary

Nathan Paul Lauer, 38, of Punxsutawney, passed away in Gilpin Township, Armstrong County, on May 26, 2021.
He was born in Punxsutawney on April 4, 1983, a son of Brian Kent Lauer and Lou Ann (Rugh) Lauer of Punxsutawney.
Nathan attended Punxsutawney Area High School.
On July 13, 2013, he married Shawna Leigh Bevak. She survives and resides in Punxsutawney.
Nathan worked for Green Acres Contracting. He enjoyed working and always put forth his best effort to be a good co-worker. Working with him didn't feel like work because he was always saying random things that made everyone laugh.
Nathan had a heart of gold and was always there to lend a hand or give of his time and resources. He had a beautiful smile, an incredible sense of humor and was loved by everyone. He was known as the best "Funcle" by his nieces and nephew.
Nathan enjoyed being outside; he was always fascinated by birds and tried to identify the species of bird he had just seen. He loved animals, particularly his new English bulldog puppy, Otis. He was a huge fan of the Michigan Wolverines, although his dad always tried to convert him into an Oklahoma Sooners fan.
He was incredibly loved by his huge extended family, including numerous aunts and uncles and many cousins. He will be dearly missed by so many who knew and loved him.
In addition to his wife, Shawna, and his parents, Brian and Lou Ann, he is survived by two stepchildren, Drew Bevak of Punxsutawney and Ethan Bish of Bossier City, Louisiana; two sisters, Shannon (Chad) LaBorde of Punxsutawney and Kasey R. (Scott) Schaffer of Reynoldsville; one brother, Cody Lauer of Punxsutawney; nieces Abigail and Brielle Schaffer; nephew Brock LaBorde; and maternal grandmother Doris Rugh of Punxsutawney.
He is preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, William Rugh, Jr., and paternal grandparents Kathryn (Simpson) Lauer and Lloyd Lauer.
Friends will be received from noon until 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 1, 2021, at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.
A private family funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 2, 2021, officiated by David Balzer.
His ashes will be interred at a future date at Circle Hill Cemetery.
Because Nathan loved animals so much, the family requests that memorial donations be made in his memory to Willow Run Animal Sanctuary, 381 E. Branch Road, Brookville, PA 15825.

Shawna,
I am so very sorry for your loss. I didn't know Nate very well. My son Michael thought very highly of him. May God give you the strength you need for the days ahead.
