Allen-Hall MortuaryNeil Paul Osmun left this mortal life on November 13, 2025 in Hyrum, Utah, due to a heart attack. He was born on June 20, 1963 in Elko, Nevada to Marvin Neil Osmun and Dorothy Winrow Osmun. He grew up mostly in Elko in a home on 4 acres of land. In high school, he played basketball and was a skilled athlete.
Have you ever met anyone who spent much of his life helping those in need? Neil was one of those people. Neil had the rare ability to recognize those who needed help, and to offer that help without a moment’s notice. Many are the individuals who were downtrodden or down on their luck who were helped or were given a place to live by Neil and his sweet wife Debbie. Neil showed in his actions what true Christianity looks like. He saved many people from drug addiction and homelessness. He was the type of man who would give you the shirt off his back, even though he might not have another shirt.
Neil met the love of his life, Deborah Donnetta Lynn, and they were married on May 5, 1997. They were later sealed for time and all eternity in the Mount Timpanogos Utah temple.
Neil loved his children and grandchildren. He had a passion for gold mining and nature. He pursued a number of jobs over the years including fencing, mining, and surveying all over the state of Nevada, a fire fighting business for ten years, and they even owned and operated the “Blue Lagoon Aquarium” (a tropical fish and pet store in Reno.) While in Hyrum, he drove a big milk truck to different dairy farms to pick up their milk to take it to the processing plant.
He lived in several places during his life, including Nevada residences in Elko, Reno, Lovelock, Rye Patch, and Golconda. The family eventually moved their fire fighting business and truck from Nevada to Preston, Idaho. Later they lived in American Fork, Logan, and then Hyrum, Utah.
A few years after Neil’s mother Dorothy died, Neil moved his family from Preston to American Fork, Utah. They spent the next four years taking care of Neil’s father Marvin. After Marvin passed they moved to Logan, Utah. While they were living in Logan, Neil suffered two heart attacks. This was a portent of his eventual and final heart attack.
Neil served faithfully in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints during much of his life, including serving as an Elders Quorum president and also a Ward Clerk.
Neil is survived by his wife Debbie and his children: Robert Cash (Melissa), Jason Cash (Heather), Ashley Turley (Bradford), Joseph Osmun, Daniel Osmun, Michael Osmun, and 10 grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his father and mother.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00pm on Tuesday November 18, 2025 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at 450 East 100 South, Hyrum, Utah 84319, with a luncheon to follow. Friends and family may visit at the same location from 11:00am to 11:40am.
In lieu of flowers, Neil would appreciate contributions to the Humanitarian Aid or General Missionary funds at churchofjesuschrist.org/donations.
