Nelda B. Nussbaum, 92, went peacefully to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on Friday, April 11, 2025, at The Restoracy of Goshen.
She was born April 29, 1932, in Manson, Iowa, to Alvin and Ruth (Lehman) Zehr.
On June 17, 1952, she married Elvin Glick. They enjoyed 37 years together prior to his death on July 2, 1989. She later married her former pastor, Irvin A. Nussbaum, on Aug. 19, 1990. They shared 23 years together prior to his death on July 10, 2014.
Nelda is survived by her four sons: Philip Glick, Florida; Kim (Mari) Glick, Goshen; Kevin (Sue) Glick, Pennsylvania; and Michael (Diane) Glick, Goshen; seven step-children: Ray (Kay) Nussbaum, Oregon; Larry (Cheryl) Nussbaum, Washington; Dean (Bonnie) Nussbaum, Oregon; Karen (Harold) Miller, Virginia; Marlin (Karla) Nussbaum, Illinois; Ted (Kathy) Nussbaum, Washington; LaJane (Bill) Moore, Ohio; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and extended family.
Along with her parents and both husbands, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Florence (Roman) Hershberger and Alice (Marvin) Newcomer, and a grandson, Cody Glick.
A Hesston College, Hesston, Kansas, graduate, Nelda taught in a one-room schoolhouse in Iowa prior to her marriage to Elvin. They bought a farm in Iowa and farmed until Elvin's death. Nelda then moved to Goshen to be near her family.
Nelda was an active member of the Yellow Creek Mennonite Church, and later went to the Waterford Mennonite Church. She served as treasurer for Mennonite women's committees at both the national and conference levels and was also an archival volunteer for Mennonite Church USA.
Nelda was an accomplished seamstress, sewing clothing and thousands of baby blankets to be sent overseas through the Mennonite Central Committee and for mission work in Haiti. Many people were blessed by receiving her beautiful quilts and wall hangings, and she donated many quilts and wall hangings for the local Mennonite Relief Sale.
The family wishes to thank Firefly Home Care, Middlebury; The Restoracy of Goshen; and Ascent Hospice of South Bend for their exceptional care for Nelda these past years.
A visitation will be at the Yellow Creek Mennonite Church Fellowship Hall from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, April 25. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 26, at the church, with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place in Manson, Iowa, at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests gifts be directed to Mennonite Central Committee.
