Nellie Jo Habibi

Our loving mother, dedicated teacher, and dearest friend, Nellie Jo Habibi, 65, passed away peacefully on February 9, 2024, at her home in Ashburn. She was born on September 23, 1958, in Washington, PA, the cherished daughter of the late Raymond and Elsie "Toots" Haught. Jo was a graduate of Trinity High School, class of 1976. Following her graduation, she relocated to Roanoke, VA, to be close to her sister, where she crossed paths with her beloved husband, Farhad Habibi. They exchanged vows on July 21, 1981, embarking on a journey filled with love and shared adventures. Jo is survived by her husband, Farhad, her adoring children, Roya Habibi Allen and Amir Habibi, and son-in-law Patrick Allen. After raising her children, she discovered her passion for education, eventually going back to earn her master's degree at George Mason University in teaching in 2009. She found her calling as an English Language Learner (ELL) teacher at Broad Run High School, where she nurtured and mentored countless international children and families. Her impact resonated far beyond the classroom, as she embraced each student as her own. In 2018, Jo was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, a battle she fought with unparalleled courage and grace until the very end. Even after retirement and throughout her chemotherapy treatments, Jo's passion for teaching continued as she helped people "Find their Voice" through teaching adults English, tutoring, and various community initiatives. Outside of her professional endeavors, Jo found joy in exploring new cultures through travel, indulging in pastries, spending hours working on puzzles, and unwinding with a good book by the pool. Friends and family are invited to celebrate Jo's life at 11 AM on February 13, 2024, at Christian Fellowship Church in Ashburn, VA. In accordance with her wishes, a scholarship program will be established to support international students in pursuing higher education.
