Nels LeRoy Kimball, 72, of Eveleth, passed away peacefully on Friday July 12, 2024, in Diamond Willow, Proctor, MN. He was born on January 3, 1952, in Two Harbors, MN to Edwin and Zelma Kimball. He married Christine Marine in Duluth on July 21, 1973, several years after Christine had chased Nels on his ten-speed bike and she caught him. Nels retired from Kimball Enterprises as a truck driver and heavy equipment mechanic. He was a member of the River Church in Duluth, and the Eveleth VFW. Nels loved to pick on his grandchildren, driving trucks, fishing, motorcycling, playing cribbage, working on cars and trucks, and his dog Paco.
Nels was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Eddie, Butch, Merle and Sherald, and a sister Dolores.
Nels is survived by his wife Christine, children Nels (Stephanie) Kimball, Shane (Jyll) Kimball, and Chandra (Greg) Hays, grandchildren Nels “Gus” (Charley), Elcey “Buggie” (Michael), Edwin “Grr” (Mercedes), Kaelan, Ella “LaLa”, Gavin “Spud”, Deryn “Dewey”, Jaida “Potato”, John, Charles, and Natalee, great-grandchildren Jason, Nels, Clarence, Oaklynn, Aubrey, and Elliot a sister Carolyn Ernest, many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday July 19, 2024, from 10AM until the 11AM Memorial Service in The River Church, 1902 E. 4th St, Duluth, MN 55812. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home, 600 E. 2nd St. Duluth, MN 55805. 218-727-3555.
