I am deeply saddened to belatedly learn of Nelson´s passing in May.
He and I grew up in adjoining towns in Western Massachusetts, but did not get to know each other until we became classmates at West Point.
We shared a love of music and sang as fellow baritones in the USMA Glee Club and the Cadet Chapel Choir.
Nelle was always an upbeat person with a perpetual smile and twinkle in his eye which allowed him to take all the West Point challenges in stride.
His life is notably highlighted by its distinguished military service to our country. Though we crossed paths only a few times at class reunions after our graduation, it was always a pleasure to reconnect with him.
He found his true calling as a pilot.
I am honored to have known him and salute him for his successful military career, especially the flights he made over the years to foreign war zones in support of our troops.
Well Done, Nellie, RIP.

Nellie and I became friends right after he first came to Westover! Many are the weekends we flew to Norfolk, VA and then down to Patrick AFB, FL and the long way back at 140 knots in the old C-123. He normally used the fake call sign, "Nellie 17". The crew members all told their war stories (What else are you gonna do at 140 miles per hour from Florida to Westover?) and we laughed like crazy all the time! To Linda - Dale and I will keep you and the family in our thoughts and prayers. Rest In Peace forever Nellie!
