Nestor Weigand Obituary
January 2, 1939 - November 1, 2023
Wichita, Kansas - Nestor R. Weigand, Jr., 84, passed away peacefully alongside family on November 1, 2023. A wake and reception for friends and family will be held from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm, Sunday, November 19, at the Cozine Life Events Center, 11500 E 21st Street N. Guests may arrive at their leisure. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 9:30 am, Monday, November 20 followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am, both at the Church of the Magdalen, 12626 E 21st Street N. A reception and lunch for friends and family will immediately follow.
Nestor is survived by his three sons, Nes (Laura), Stephen, and Johnathan; his former spouse and dear friend, Luann; his four grandchildren, J.R., Vivien, Theo and Nathaniel; and 10 nieces and nephews he loved dearly alongside his brother and sisters.
In lieu of flowers, the family would ask that donations be considered in his honor to the following causes: Home Care & Hospice of the Valley (who cared for Nestor in his final months), Empowered (a Wichita-based non-profit focused on education), and St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church (his local parish in Wichita).

A Patriot, kind, intelligent gentleman who understood the value of service for common good where ever possible. Starting with his military service and continuing throughout his life. A rare man. A pleasure to work for his campaign for Governor and meet with him while JOCO Republican Chairman.

With empathy and shared life experiences as Notre Dame Class of '60 Classmates, I was also Wichita
born, though I moved with my wife, Carol, to our vacation home in Aspen in 2004 after 25 years in Dallas, making Colorado our permanent home. My mother, Dorothea Gufler Kurt (Lester), who passed in 1996 (buried Calvary Cemetery) was also a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Parish, and a cousin.
