Nettie Lea Shannon, age 95, of Fort Mill SC, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, March 23, 2026.

The family is hosting a celebration of life that will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 11th, 2026 at Unity Presbyterian Church in Fort Mill. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the Fellowship Hall.

Born in Chester, SC, she was the daughter of the late Charles McDowell Banks and Nettie Gertrude Black Banks. She was a graduate of Blackstock High School and retired from the Fort Mill School District.

Lea was a long-time member of Unity Presbyterian Church, past Moderator of Women of the Church, Member of Tony Dehler Circle, was awarded a Lifetime Membership in Women of Unity, was a past church office volunteer, enjoyed Wednesday Bible Study, Chancel Choir, Jaycee-ettes, and Rose Garden Club. She enjoyed sports, especially the Atlanta Braves and the South Carolina Gamecocks.

Survived by:

Children: Debbie Butler, Rick Shannon, Madge Hunter, Hiram Shannon (Kelli)

Grandchildren: Rob Butler, Cole Hunter (Kelly), Mason Hunter, Banks Shannon, Carson Shannon, Frances Butler (Tina), Teresa Salyers (Brian)

Great-grandchildren: Ella Hunter, Violet Hunter, Lucy Hunter, Ally Salyers, Faith Salyers

In addition to her parents, Lea was preceded in death by her loving husband of 53 years, James Richard Shannon, Sr.; daughter, Beth Shannon; and granddaughter, Emma Jane Butler.

The family wishes to thank Nicole, RN and Mimi, CNA, of Epic Healthcare, for their loving assistance.
