In Memory of Neva J. Matthews Funeral services for Neva J. Matthews, 78, of Lake Providence, LA were held at 2:00 PM, Friday, October 3, 2008 at Brown-Holley Funeral Chapel in Oak Grove, LA with Rev. Terry Jordan officiating. Interment followed in Providence Memorial Cemetery, Lake Providence, LA. Neva Matthews was born on August 30, 1930 and passed away on Wednesday, October 1, 2008. Mrs. Matthews was a member of First United Pentecostal Church in Oak Grove. She loved strayed animals and to work in her garden. She was preceded in death by her parents, Loreen and Andy Carter, Sr.; brothers, James Carter and Andy Carter, Jr.; sisters, Gertrude Stanley, Eva Nell Sullivan, Lauvonda Pipes, and Brenda Mobley; and her grandchild, Cindy Pardon. Survivors include her husband, Elbert Matthews of Lake Providence; 2-sons, Larry Matthews and wife, Wanda of Rayville and Jimmy Ray Matthews, Sr. of Lake Providence; 3-daughters, Regena Pardon and husband, Clifton of Mer Rouge, Sherry Duff of Oak Grove, and Linda Matthews of Lake Providence; 9-grandchildren; 12-grandchildren; 1-great-great grandchild; brother, William "Sonny" Carter and wife, Opal of Oak Grove; 2-sisters, Patricia Stanley of Oak Grove and Cammie Martinez and husband, Lorenzo of Oak Grove; numerous nieces and nephews and her extended church family; and a special friend, Renea. Pallbearers were Glenn Mobley, Gregg Mobley, Jed Couch, Billy Couch, Daniel Sullivan, and Alvin Sullivan.
