Neva Peterson Thompson, of
Scottsdale, Arizona passed away on February 6, 2023. Neva was born on April 24, 1919 in
Newbern, Tennessee. Daughter of Charlie & Mary Jane Jones Peterson. She eventually moved to
Scottsdale, Arizona in 1985 from Memphis, Tennessee.
Neva was a beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Aunt, Sister, Mother-in-law and Friend to many. Neva's life revolved around her family.
She was a member of the Ladies of the Oriental Shrine (L.O.S) Sphinx Court No. 65, Phoenix, Arizona, past member of Park Avenue Eastern Star, Memphis, Tennessee, a lifelong Consultant with Mary Kay Cosmetics since 1979 and together in the Mini Storage business with her husband George Oscar Thompson for 23 years. She was a member of Galloway United Methodist Church in Memphis, Tennessee for 40 years and Paradise Valley United Methodist Church in Paradise Valley, Arizona for 38 years.
She married George Oscar Thompson (G.O.) on September 26, 1937 in
Hickman, Kentucky. G.O. was the love of her life. She loved the Lord, family and her church.
She is preceded in death by her husband, George Oscar (G. O.) Thompson, of
Scottsdale, AZ, son, James (Jimmie) Leslie Thompson of
Memphis, TN, brothers, Vernon Peterson, of
Buckeye, AZ, Edward Peterson of
Buckeye, AZ, Floyd Peterson of
Buckeye, AZ, Charlie Peterson of
Phoenix, AZ, Ernest Peterson of
Apache Junction, AZ, sisters, Elizabeth Estes of
Memphis, TN, Ruby (Miki) Pardon of Ahwatukee, AZ, Margaret Pool of
Phoenix, AZ and nephew, Thomas Claude Sammons of Ahwatukee, AZ and great grandson, Jesse Lee Atkins of
Dallas, Texas.
She is survived by her daughter, Jo Anne Atkins of
Scottsdale, Arizona, 5 grandchildren, Jennifer Lee Arnold and her husband Christopher Joel Arnold of
Scottsdale, Arizona, Stephanie Anne Leibick and her husband, David Leibick of
Scottsdale, Arizona, Jo Anne Renee Stratos and husband, Constantino of Sarasota, Florida, Bemis T. Atkins, III of Memphis, Tennessee and Stacy Leigh Briske of Memphis, Tennessee. 3 great grandchildren, Fallon Tuttle of
Dallas, Texas and Spencer Alexander Leibick of
Scottsdale, Arizona and many nieces and nephews.
The viewing and the funeral service celebration of Neva's life will be held at Messinger Indian School Mortuary, 7601 E. Indian School Road,
Scottsdale, Arizona 85251.
The viewing will be held on Friday, February 10, 2023 from 4:00PM to 8:00PM.
Funeral service celebration of Neva's life will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2023 from 10:00AM to 11:00AM. A reception lunch will be following the Celebration of Neva's life at 11:00AM to 1:00PM.
Graveside service will be at Paradise Valley Memorial Gardens, 9300 E. Shea Blvd.
Scottsdale, Arizona 85260 at 2:00pm.
