Newton Hurst passed away on November 23, 2025. He is survived by his beloved wife, Margaret (nee Griffin) of 58 years and his loving son, James, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was born in Flat River Township, North Carolina, on January 10, 1940 to John and Gladys (Rogers) Hurst. In 1962 while living in Philadelphia, he was inducted into the U.S. Army Artillery where he served for two years and then signed up for the Army Reserves for 6 more years. Through his years in the Service, Newton earned the Sharpshooter (Rifle) recognition, Driver "W" Badge and Good Conduct Medal. Although he was known to have a quiet manner about him and a good sense of humor, he enjoyed being social with family and friends, helping family and neighbors, watching TV and reading. He loved going to the shore, especially North Wildwood. Newton will be sadly missed by family members and friends.
Newton loved The Salvation Army. In lieu of flowers, it is only fitting that the family requests memorial contributions be made to The Salvation Army.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Newton's funeral on Friday, November 28, 2025, at Holy Innocents Church, 1330 E. Hunting Park Avenue (19124). His visitation begins at 9 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 AM. Interment will follow at Lawnview Cemetery in Rockledge.
