Obituary For Nicholas Galluccio

Nicholas Galluccio was born in New York City on August 28, 1931. He was the youngest child of Henrietta and Sebastiano Galluccio. Nicholas grew up in Manhattan, New York, and later moved to Great Kills, Staten Island where he lived with his loving wife Dolly of 54 years, and their four children.

Nick attended Automotive Institute and was a highly skilled mechanic who could fix anything. His friends and family always relied on him to help with anything and everything. All four of his children kept him quite busy with their to-do lists when he visited with each of them. Lending his expertise brought him great satisfaction and enjoyment. His diverse skills enabled him to fix just about anything and led to his four children's phrase "my daddy can fix anything."

Nick was an avid reader who would read anything, including his children's old high school text books. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of a vast array of subjects, and was a life-long learner. He was the king of Trivial Pursuit, Jeopardy and was everyone's "phone a friend." One of his children's favorite memories was playing Trivial Pursuit with him. When deciding on teams, everyone wanted Nick on their team. His team always won. He was a die-hard Yankee fan and never missed a game. He umpired from the couch, cheered them on when things were going well, and loudly expressed his disappointment when he didn't agree with the plays. Some of his other pastimes included traveling, biking, walking and debating.

Sadly Nick passed away on Tuesday, January 13 at Staten Island University Hospital surrounded by his family. Nicholas is pre-deceased by his wife Veronica (Dolly) Galluccio. He was a devoted and loving father to Lorraine Visciano (Frank), Steven Galluccio (Trish), Donna Marino (Joe), and Gina Barberio (Gary). He thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren whom he referred to as "Snow White and the ten dwarfs", Nicole (John), Frank (Brie), Ben, Danny (Ellen), Devin (Shannon), Joseph (Anthony), Michael (Alyssa), Gian, Steven (Ginger), Christopher and Darren. Nick was also a proud great-grandfather to Lucy, Teagan, Ainsley, Jude, Sebastian, Michael, Emilia Rose and Matteo. Nick is also survived by his devoted companion, Cathy Hickey.

A mass will be held on Friday, January 16 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Clare's Church, Staten Island, New York, where Nick was a long-time parishioner, (even attending mass in a blizzard).
