Nicholas J. Gjerde

CEDAR FALLS-Nicholas Joel Gjerde, 22, of Prole, Iowa, formerly of Cedar Falls died Saturday, January 15, 2011 at his home. He was born August 11, 1988, in Mason City, the son of Mark G. and Natalie E. (Hoff) Gjerde. He grew up in Carlisle and attended Cedar Falls High School is junior and senior years, graduating in 2006. He attended Hawkeye Community College and later received his HVAC certification from Des Moines Area Community College. He was employed with the R & R Reality Group in Des Moines as a maintenance technician. Survived by his mother and step father, Natalie and George Cummings of Cedar Falls; father, Mark Gjerde of Des Moines; one brother, Cody Gjerde of Rochester; six sisters, Abby Siglin, Arica Siglin, Alexes Cummings and Brittaney Cummings, all of Des Moines, Courtney Cummings of Cedar Falls, and Maya Gjerde of Norwalk; maternal grandmother, Nancy (Ed)Kemp of Waterloo; maternal grandfather, Ronald (Marie) Hoff of Cassville, MO, and paternal grandparents, Lloyd and Alice Gjerde of Altoona and Thomas and Jackie Cummings of Des Moines. Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cedar Falls, with interment in the Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Richardson Funeral Home, where there will be a 4 p.m. Rosary and a 7 p.m. Vigil.
