Nicholas Lahanas Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Nicos C. Elias Funeral Home, Inc. on Mar. 3, 2026.
Nicholas "Nick" Lahanas, 95, of Allentown, formerly of Slatington, passed away on March 1, 2026. Born in Kerami, Mytilini, Greece. He was the son of the late Demetrios and Evangelia Lahanas. Nick met his wife, Maritsa, not too far from his home village, and they were married shortly after they met. They emigrated to the USA with their three young children. Nick started work almost immediately after arriving at the former Dent Manufacturing in Northampton. His English was never perfect, but it never stopped him from learning his work and making sure he did it well. He rarely took a sick day in the 26 years he worked at Dent. When he retired, they traveled to Greece for many consecutive summers spending time with family and friends there.

He greeted people with a big smile and a joke. He loved his garden and shared his homegrown vegetables with family, friends, and neighbors. He enjoyed working in the yard, and he mowed the lawn until he was 94. Most of all, he loved and cherished his family.

Nick served with the Greek Army in Korea. He was a member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Bethlehem and was a former member of Allentown AHEPA.

He will be missed by his wife, sons, James (Kay) and Michael (Sue), daughter, Edyth, grandchildren, Maritsa (Tavis), Niko (Krissy), Veronica (AJ), Demitri (Lexi), three great grandchildren and one on the way very soon. Brother, Anastasios of Melbourne, Australia. Nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his sisters in Greece, Maritsa Soumas and Elenenitsa Gligli.

We will miss seeing him sit at the head of the table during our holiday feasts as he as admired his growing family. He often shed tears of quiet pride and joy in amazement of his good life, yet he never forgot where he came from. You did good, Pop. You lived your dream and more. Now rest peacefully. You earned it.

Services: viewing Friday, March 6th starting at 10:30 a.m. at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 1607 W. Union Blvd., Bethlehem. Funeral service at 11:30 in the church with interment following at Cedar Hill Memorial Park, Allentown.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Cathedral for the Senior Citizens Club, because he enjoyed their monthly gatherings. Arrangements by Nicos C. Elias Funeral Home, Allentown.
