Nicholas “Martin” Stringer passed away on May 5, 2024, after a heroic battle with cancer. His family was lovingly at his side. He was 83. Born in Hagley, England to Patricia Adams and Reginald Stringer. Martin's father served in the British Royal Air Force and was killed during WW2. At the end of the war, at the age of 7, Martin and his mother visited friends in the U.S. where she met and married Howard Fleet of Ada, Oklahoma. Martin lived his rambunctious and studious young life in Ada, along with brothers Bill and Doug and Alan. Martin was blessed with a large and loving family. The greatest loss of Martin's life was in 2010 when his beloved daughter, Olivia, who was a ray of sunshine, passed away unexpectedly.  Martin is survived by his wife Heather, and four children and their families, and his faithful canine companion, Mr. Bates.  Martin's children include Kevin Stringer and his wife Beatrice of Winkle, Switzerland, Nichole Stringer Shepherd and her husband Jeff of Oklahoma City, Natalie Stringer Gransee and her husband Sam of Oklahoma City, Samuel Stringer, and his wife Elaine of Oklahoma City. He is also survived by two stepchildren, Jonathon Stranger and his wife Kristen of Edmond, Oklahoma and Hope Stranger and her husband Alessandro of Brooklyn, New York.  He loved his 11 grandchildren, Fiona, Vivian and Kira, Sophia and Cooper, Isabel, George and Reginald, Wren, Kipling and Giovanni. They brought him much joy and happiness. Martin also leaves behind his brother Alan and wife Patty. Forever an OU football fan, Martin attended the University of Oklahoma for undergraduate and graduate law studies. Martin was considered one of Oklahoma’s most prominent attorneys and had a wealth of experience and expertise as a negotiator in the field of business law, mergers and acquisitions, and complex business litigation matters. He was the co-founder of McKinney-Stringer, one of the state’s largest law firms. In 2005, after McKinney-Stringer changed hands, Martin joined the law firm of McAfee and Taft where he practiced until one month ago. Credited with being a lead negotiator in bringing the Seattle Super Sonics to the state now known as the OKC Thunder. His achievements and awards are many. For over 75 years, family summers in northern Minnesota led to a love of lake living. This summer of 2024 will be the first that Martin will not visit his beloved summer home on Trout Lake in Pine River, Minnesota. This was his happy place. Martin was strong willed and stubborn at times, but he also had an enormous heart and wonderful sense of humor. He was generous, loyal, and brave. He was clever and full to the brim with knowledge gained through all his life experiences.

Martin will be remembered for all the heart he shared with his family, friends, and colleagues. He truly loved each of them and if you knew him, you knew it. When his time came, he carried himself with dignity, strength, and was full of love for those who went before him. He will be missed dearly. Please join his family for a celebration of life on Saturday, May 11th at 4 PM at the Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club.  In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Firstep Men's and Women's Recovery Program, or a charity of your choosing in Martin's name.
