Nicholas "Nick" Peter Kastros of Saginaw, Michigan

Beloved son, brother, grandson, uncle, cousin, nephew, and friend passed away unexpectedly on Monday, July 17, 2023, in Petoskey, Michigan. He was 33 years old. Nicholas Peter Kastros was born on July 21, 1989, in Saginaw, Michigan, to Peter George and Rebecca L. (Kerouac) Kastros. He was a proud 2008 graduate of Heritage High School. Following graduation, Nick attended Central Michigan University, graduating in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science in Political Science. Throughout his life, he served others by volunteering his time and whole heart to various addiction rehabilitation services. He was actively involved with "Hope Not Handcuffs", Families Against Narcotics (FAN) - Great Lakes Bay Region, the Drug and Alcohol Prevention Program at Delta College, and he created his own business platform and podcast called the "O.D. Open Discussion Movement" where he publicly created and promoted an open discussion to remove the stigma of addiction. Nick used his excellent communication skills to lecture, teach, and speak to students at Arthur Hill High School, Saginaw High School, and various other institutions throughout the state. He had been employed with the Saginaw Youth Counsel, at Quicken Loans as an Associate Broker, various retail positions with Buckle, JoAnn Fabric, and most recently as a Sales Manager at Chico's in Petoskey. He was an avid reader and gifted writer, publishing various sports articles over the years. Nick loved all sports, hockey being his favorite. An accomplished artist, he had an excellent eye for detail and always dressed and accessorized fashionably. He used his creativity to help and inspire others. Nick also enjoyed traveling, camping, and was an avid thrift shopper. He also enjoyed spending time with children, especially his nieces and nephew. Simply put, he was a priceless and profound spirit that loved fiercely and passionately. He will forever be remembered as a remarkable debater, a free and adventurous spirit, and an extraordinary teacher and leader. Nick truly lived an amazing life filled with many beautiful memories and stories. He left his indelible mark on this world through helping those struggling with addiction and teaching people that spiritual health is just as important as mental and emotional health.

Surviving are his parents: Rebecca (Kenneth) Kerouac and Peter (Terri) Kastros of Saginaw; four brothers and a sister: Peter David Kastros of Petoskey; Benjamin Peter (Kasey) Kastros of Saginaw; Matthew Alan Kerouac and his fiancée, Madison Reid of St. Clair Shores; Jason (Cameo) Lynn of Saginaw; Amanda Lynn of Saginaw; grandmother, Janice Markin of Saginaw; four nieces and one nephew: Sawyer, Colton, Journey, Andee, and Kinsley. Also surviving are many aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family, and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Nicholas and Betty Kastros and David Markin.

Honoring the family's wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of Nick’s life be held from 2:00 pm- 5:00 pm on Sunday, September 3, 2023, at Memorial Park, 150 Park Street, Freeland, MI 48623.
