Nicholas Smith Obituary

Sgt. Nicholas J. Smith Clarksville, TN - Sgt. Nicholas J Smith, 30, passed away on Saturday, July 6, 2024 in Clarksville, TN from injuries sustained as a result of a motorcycle accident, while stationed at Fort Campbell, on the border of Kentucky and Tennessee.
Born June 2, 1994 in Niskayuna, NY, he was the son of Mark W and Lora A (Johnston) Smith. Nick was a proud member of the United States Army from October 10, 2018 until his passing. Reaching the rank of Sergeant/E5, he was the recipient of The Army Commendation Medal and Certificate of Appreciation. During his time in service, Nicky made many friends both near and far, and was well respected by his troops in the US and overseas.
Growing up in Schenectady, NY, he played Pop Warner Football from the age of five years old until high school, where he would go on to play varsity football, lacrosse and wrestling. He graduated from Schenectady High School in 2012 and continued his education at SUNY Albany, earning a Bachelor of Science degree.
Nicky was a member of Loyal Order of Moose in Schenectady. He enjoyed gaming with his friends, working out, traveling the world and riding his motorcycle. He also enjoyed NASCAR races with his father and friends, speaking with his momma on the phone daily, tormenting his sister and cherishing his nephew Kayden.
The family would like to sincerely thank the US Army and their representatives for all of their care and support. Nick will be dearly missed by all.
Nick was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Warren and Barbara (Brassard) Smith and by close family members, Ray and Marianne VanWagner.
In addition to his parents, survivors include his sister, Katlyn M Smith; nephew, Kayden M Smith; maternal grandmother, Martha L. Burgess and many near and dear aunts, uncles and cousins.
The family will receive relatives and friends Thursday, July 18 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Griswold Funeral Home, 1867 State St., Schenectady, NY 12304. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 19 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will full military honors will follow in the Hero's Section of Memory Gardens Cemetery, Colonie.
Memorial donations in Nick's name may be made to IBI Semper Training, 25 Dublin Dr., Niskayuna, NY 12309 or online at ibisempertraining.org.
