Nicholas Van Drunen Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Regency Mortuary - Sun City on Mar. 11, 2026.
Nicholas Lee Van Drunen, 51, of Sun City, Arizona, passed away on March 5, 2026. Born in Phoenix, Arizona, Nick spent his entire life in the state he called home.

Nick was a deeply creative and thoughtful person with many talents. Over the years he worked as a short time as a licensed truck driver, cook and a tile setter, the trade that became his primary profession. His tile work reflected both skill and artistry, and those who saw his work often admired the care and creativity he put into it.

Music was one of Nick's greatest passions. He was known for playing guitar and was gifted across many instruments, including bass, drums, and piano, and he also loved to sing and write songs. At one point he played in a band, sharing his love of music with others. Beyond music, Nick had a natural artistic ability and could draw beautifully. He was also curious about the world and loved learning about history, astronomy, and science.

Nick had a sensitive spirit and a thoughtful, inquisitive mind. He was known for his sense of humor and enjoyed playing small jokes on those around him. He faced significant challenges during his life but continued to move forward with resilience.

In his free time, Nick loved cooking, building detailed model ships, and playing guitar. He also enjoyed traveling and visiting places such as Ireland, Italy, and the United Kingdom. Many who knew him will remember his signature flat cap from Dublin, which he wore often.

Nick is survived by his father, Gilbert Van Drunen; his mother, Kathy Angelle; his stepfather, James Angelle; his sister, Diana Libberton; and his brother-in-law, Robert Libberton. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, nephews-in-law, and grand-nephews who will remember him with love.

A viewing will be held Friday, March 13, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by a memorial service from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Regency Mortuary and Crematory, 9850 W. Thunderbird Blvd., Sun City, Arizona 85351.

Nick will be remembered for his creativity, humor, thoughtful nature, and the music he shared with those around him.
