Nicholas "Nick" Westphal, 40, passed away unexpectedly around November 22, 2025. Nick was born in Midland, Mich., on August 10,1985. He grew up in Midland and most recently resided in Farmington Hills, Mich. Nick graduated from Midland High School in 2003. He went on to Northwood University to earn a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, and became a Buyer in the Detroit area.
Nick was an avid sports lover his whole life. He loved to play, watch and write about sports. Nick shared his love of sports with his family, especially his nephew. Nick was easy going and level headed-the voice of reason. He was very intelligent, and a creative writer. Nick loved volunteering at the Humane Society. He was a comedian and always made others laugh.
Nick is survived by his loving family, including his mother, Connie (Gielda) Westphal; siblings Christopher Westphal and Tanya Westphal; aunts, Susan and Sandra Westphal; uncle, Thomas Gielda; nephew, Jacob Orvis. Nick was predeceased by his father, Frederick A. Westphal; grandparents, John and Leona (Kitts) Gielda; grandparents, Frederick H. and Charlotte (Schalk) Westphal.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on December 16, 2025 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Sanford, Mich., with Fr. Dan Fox officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 5 to 7 p.m., on December 15, 2025, at Smith-Miner Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. until time of service, the next day at the church. A graveside service will talk place at New Calvary Cemetery immediately following the services at the church.
