Born in Berkeley, California, Nigel Benito Mayweather Jr. was the beloved son of Nigel Benito Mayweather Sr. and Darlene Perry. From an early age, Nigel was known for his radiant smile, infectious laugh, and warm demeanor that lit up every room he entered.
As a child, Nigel was full of energy and enthusiasm, especially when it came to sports. He played basketball, baseball, and football, but football was a favorite sport. A devoted Oakland Raiders fan, Nigel cherished the memory of attending a game as a young boy.
Upon his father death in 2002 he went to live with his aunt Donna Perry and her family in Lemoore CA. He was loved by his aunts, cousins and friends. Nigel attended Liberty Middle School and Lemoore High School in Lemoore CA. Nigel attended parties, sport events and city dances with his cousins and friends. He was the life of the party. He was a prankster too and enjoyed pulling a "fast one" on friends and family. In 2003, because of his height Nigel was a stand-in senior prom date for his cousin's friend.
His talent and dedication shone brightly during his time playing football for Lemoore, California, where he was part of the championship team in 2004. That undefeated season (12-0) earned Nigel and his teammates a feature in the Lemoore Advance Newspaper, a testament to their remarkable achievement.
Nigel also had a keen eye for fashion, particularly when it came to tennis shoes. He was known for his pristine collection of Air Force Ones; always kept sparkling white with a towel he carried just for that purpose.
In 2005, Nigel faced a life-altering challenge when he contracted cryptococcal meningitis, which left him developmentally disabled. Despite this, Nigel's spirit remained unbreakable. He lived at the Provident Catalina Home in Merced, where he was surrounded by compassionate caregivers and a loving community. He attended MCOE Shelby School and proudly received his certificate of completion in 2012. From 2012-2024 he attended Loyd's Day Program, where Nigel explored art and crafts and enjoyed many enriching community experiences.
Nigel's love for music, especially Mac Dre's- Thizzle Dance, never waned. His face would light up and his head would bob to the beat whenever his favorite songs played. His joy was contagious, and he was deeply cherished by all who knew him. He loved attending Club 67 dances, where he would bounce to the music and joyfully connect with other attendees.
Nigel Benito Mayweather Jr. will be remembered for his unwavering smile, his love for life, and the joy he brought to his family and caregivers. He was truly loved and will be profoundly missed.
Nigel was proceeded in death by his father Nigel Sr., his grandmother Hattie Perry, his grandfather Walker Perry and his aunt Diane Perry. He leaves to carry his light, his mother Darlene Perry; aunts Deborah Perry Vincent, Doreen Perry, Donna Perry; his cousins Phillip Charles, Ashly Perry-Quinata, Brook Walker, Briana Messinie, Christian Stallworth, and Morgan Vincent.
