Ning Chen, beloved wife, mother, daughter, professor, and mentor, passed away peacefully at midnight on November 4, 2025, following cancer-related complications. She was 53 years old.
Born in Nanjing, Jiangsu, China, Ning was the cherished daughter of Peiling Chen, a college professor, and the late Huipu Wu, a high school physics teacher. Inspired by her parents’ devotion to education, Ning pursued academic excellence throughout her life. She earned her B.S. in Educational Technology and M.S. in Psychology from Nanjing Normal University, followed by a Ph.D. in Psychology from East China Normal University. She later continued her scholarly journey in the United States, earning a second Ph.D. in Business Administration from the University of California, Los Angeles.
Ning began her academic career as an Assistant Professor at Fudan University in China. She later served as an Associate Professor at Clarion University of Pennsylvania, and subsequently as a Professor at Lehman College, CUNY. At Lehman, she also served as Chair of the Department of Management and Business Innovation, guiding faculty and students with clarity, compassion, and principled leadership.
To her students, Ning was a gifted and dedicated teacher. She often said that she loved teaching, and her classroom reflected that love. She had a rare ability to understand her students—seeing both their potential and their struggles—and she helped them grow with confidence and purpose. As a scholar, she was thoughtful, rigorous, and widely respected. As a colleague and leader, she was known for her integrity, warmth, and grace.
Ning is survived by her husband, Feng Cui, her daughter, Angelina Cui, and her father, Peiling Chen. Her presence and spirit will continue to live on in their hearts, and in the countless students, colleagues, and friends whose lives she touched.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 15, from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Hawthorne Funeral Home in Hawthorne, New York.
Ning’s family expresses their sincere gratitude for the kindness, support, and condolences received during this time. In honoring her life, we remember her strength, generosity, and the profound love she shared with the world.
