Nita Snyder Obituary
Nita was born in Evansville, Indiana on July 4, 1948, the daughter of the late James Thomas and Julia Anna (Blakely) Hammonds. When she was five years old the Hammonds family moved across the Ohio River to Henderson Kentucky where Nita completed her first 12 years of education. The family then moved to San Antonio, Texas. Nita then attended San Antonio College, pursuing her lifelong interest in art. Her final two years of college were at the University of Texas at Austin, where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in art history.
While at the University of Texas, she met her future husband. On August 22, 1971, she married Frederic “Fred” Snyder in Austin, TX, and he survives in Fremont, Ohio.
Nita was a lifelong artist, known for her exceptional skill in portrait art. She worked for a number of companies utilizing her skills. She also loved gardening and working in her flower beds and was deeply involved in finding and refinishing collectable antique wooden furniture. She was also accomplished in artistic-type crafts. Her paintings and drawings were often sold and won many awards.
Besides her husband Fred, she is also survived by a son, John (Lauren) Snyder, a daughter, Amber (Douglas) Cunningham, and three grandchildren: Mackenzie Riddle, Chase Snyder, Cole Snyder, and three siblings: James (Carolyn) Hammonds of Pickerington, Ohio, Janice (Samuel) Lainoff of Walnut Creek, California, Donald (Ann) Hammonds of San Antonio, Texas, and seven nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a niece.
The Reverend Deacon John J. Snyder, her brother-in-law, will officiate a funeral service on Thursday, June 6, 2024, at 1:30 p.m. in the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home, 101 Zanesfield Rd., West Liberty, Ohio 43357.
