John Noel Ladle returned to his heavenly home on November 2, 2025, after battling Alzheimer's Disease. In spite of his health challenges, he kept his gentle demeanor and wonderful sense of humor until the end.
Noel was born on January 24, 1936, in Idaho Falls, Idaho to John Eldon and Shirley Harrison Ladle. He was the oldest of 5 sons and grew up in Sugar City and Rexburg, Idaho always surrounded by family and where he had many adventures.
Scouting was an important part of Noel's life and as a youth he worked at Treasure Mountain Scout Camp in the Tetons where he taught swimming, life saving, canoeing, and rowing. A highlight of Noel's life was when he attended the National Scout Jamboree in 1950 when he was 14 years old. It was there that he was awarded his Eagle Scout rank.
Noel married Mary Ellen Ladle on August 14, 1959, in the Idaho Falls Temple and are the parents of seven children. Noel was always known to be a calm soul who didn't get ruffled easily and each child felt special during one-on-one times with him. Noel and Mary Ellen moved to West Valley City, Utah in 1967 and stayed there until moving into Legacy House in Spanish Fork, Utah in 2020.
He attended Ricks College and earned a bachelor's degree in 1960 from Brigham Young University in Bacteriology with a minor in Zoology. Noel initially worked at Holy Cross Hospital in Salt Lake City and co-authored articles that were published in medical journals. He then worked for Pathology Associates. A majority of his career was as the Laboratory Manager at Salt Lake Clinic.
Noel served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Netherlands Mission. The restored gospel of Jesus Christ was important to him and he had many opportunities to serve in various church leadership capacities throughout his life. With Mary Ellen, they were excellent examples of Christ-like living. Their testimonies of the Gospel shone brightest through their quiet acts of service and love to family and neighbors.
He enjoyed reading and trains, but his favorite hobby was canoeing, and his favorite place to camp was in the Tetons where he spent many hours on String and Leigh lakes. He introduced his family and many scout groups to the wonders of the Teton mountain range and they also fell in love with that wonderful place.
Noel is survived by his children Michael Ladle (Annette), Janel Katter (Mark), Wendy Rosser (Robert), Devin Ladle (Kathy), Trent Ladle (Tracy), Kathryn Sorensen (Kent), 17 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren, as well as his brothers Dwayne, Doug, and Bruce.
He is preceded in death by his wife Mary Ellen, daughter Lori Ann, granddaughter Alyse, his parents, and brother, Garth.
Many thanks to the wonderful people at Legacy House of Spanish Fork and Renew Hospice for their devoted care of Noel during his final years.
