Nora Jean Erdman, 92 passed away in her home in
Divide, Co on February 14, 2026.
Nora Jean Erdman, lovingly known as Jean, was born on June 5, 1933, in
Fairfax, Missouri to Robert and Nora Thornton. She lived a life defined by hard work, deep faith, love for her family, and an appreciation for nature and adventure.
Jean married the love of her life, Ernie Erdman, on October 3, 1950. They shared nearly 68 wonderful years of marriage before Ernie's passing in March, 2018. Together they built a life centered around family, dedication, and partnership, raising their two daughters, Connie and Sylvia.
Jean worked alongside her husband for many years in his mechanic shop, helping with bookkeeping and obtaining parts. When Ernie later began farming, Jean was right there beside him-driving tractors and grain trucks while also making sure her family always had a hot meal waiting on the table each night.
After Ernie retired, Jean fulfilled a lifelong dream of moving to Colorado, where she loved the majestic beauty and cool mountain air. In 1995, she began working as a contract mail carrier, a job she held for 25 years until 2020, becoming one of the oldest postal contractors in the country.
Jean was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in 1956(?)and her faith was a central part of her life. She loved sharing the good news of God's Kingdom and spent more than 30 years serving as a full-time pioneer. Her love for Jehovah and for people was evident in her kindness, warmth, and willingness to talk with anyone.
Jean was also an avid lover of nature, especially birds, and found joy in watching and feeding them. She was an exceptional baker, particularly known for her homemade bread and her famous cinnamon rolls, which have been enjoyed by family and friends around the world.
Family was important in Jean's life. She cherished every moment spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Known for her warmth and generosity, Jean became a mother and grandmother figure not only to her own family, but also to extended relatives, friends, and even strangers who were fortunate enough to know her.
Jean is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ernie Erdman; her parents Robert and Nora Thornton; her stepfather, Roy Patton, whom she lovingly referred to as "Daddy Roy"; seven siblings(James, Carrie, Archie, Dorothy, R.D, Sharon and Donna); her son-in-law, Jeff Broady; grandson, Christopher; and granddaughter, Nora Kaye.
She is survived by granddaughter, Julia Erdman and great-grandson, Shea Doherty of the home; daughter Connie Broady and husband Ron of Peyton, Colorado; and daughter Sylvia Samuel and husband Damon of Omaha, Nebraska; five grandchildren(Darcie, Bracton, Gretchen, Colton and Carrie); eight great-grandchildren(Joseph, Corbin, Dalton, Monty, Adalin, Claire, Chloe and Louetta); as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins, all of whom she held dear to her heart.
Jean will be remembered for her kindness, strength, adventurous spirit, and the deep love she shared with everyone around her. She remained young at heart throughout her life, never losing her passion for exploring, traveling-embracing each day with joy and a little humor.
Her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched and the family she loved so dearly.
2 Timothy 4:7 "I have fought the fine fight, I have run the race to the finish, I have observed the faith."
