It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Nora Gloria Gutierrez, age 81, on January 28, 2026. She was a beloved mother of four, grandmother of seven, and great-grandmother of five.
Nora was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on October 18, 1944. After graduating from Albuquerque High School, she met her loving husband, Raymond Gutierrez, and they were married on April 18, 1964. Nora and Ray were blessed to celebrate 61 beautiful years together. They spent time traveling the world, visiting Italy, Hawaii, and many locations throughout the United States as they traveled to see their children and grandchildren wherever life took them. They also enjoyed many fun-filled family vacations to Florida and the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
Nora worked in retail and volunteered with the Altamont Baseball program for all of her children, but she considered her role as a mother to be her most important job. She was a fiercely dedicated mom who raised her children to go on to accomplish great things. Known for her deep love for her family, Nora was always proud to celebrate their successes. Her strength and resilience were second to none, and the protection and well-being of her family were always her top priority.
Nora was a brilliant artisan in the kitchen. Her famous posole and tamales, along with her fabulous biscochitos, were just a few of the dishes that brought comfort and a true sense of home to her family. She was also a talented crocheter and seamstress. Her handmade blankets, quilts, and other special creations are treasured keepsakes her family will cherish forever. She also found joy in playing cards and reading.
Nora was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Joe Larribas; her sister, Candy Fragoza; and her grandson, Daniel Cunningham.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Raymond Gutierrez; her children: Vince (Liz) Gutierrez, Michelle (Matthew) Cunningham, Marvin (Andris) Gutierrez, and Angelique (Hank) Patalan; her grandchildren: Christopher (Jocelyn) Lobato, Killian Gutierrez, Elijah Gutierrez, Alexis Patalan, Kiley Patalan, and Matthew (Amber) Cunningham Jr.; and her great-grandchildren: Athens Lobato, soon-to-be-born Raymond Lobato, Dylan Cunningham, Madilyn Cunningham, and Donovan Cunningham. She is also survived by her sisters, Rosemary Murphy and Isabel Peralta, and her brother, Paul Larribas.
Services, including a eulogy, Rosary, Mass, and reception, will be held on Friday, February 27, 2026, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Prince of Peace Catholic Church (12500 Carmel Avenue NE, Albuquerque, NM 87122). Following the reception, family and friends are invited to attend Nora's interment at Gate of Heaven Catholic Cemetery (7999 Wyoming Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87109).
