Nora "Nanny" Stuckey Sheffield, age 101, of DeFuniak Springs, Florida, went home to the Lord Wednesday, February 22, 2023, at home with her family by her side. She was born June 9, 1921, in Walton County, Florida.
Always a strong, independent, God-fearing woman, Nanny impacted many lives in her one-hundred one years. Her great love for her family, gardening, fishing, and baking will be remembered by all. Nanny's grandchildren were her heart and joy, there's no denying that. Her grandbabies, as she called them, were the people she loved the most. Time spent at Nanny's house was very special for her grandbabies, and their parents were discouraged from hanging out too long.
Loved ones that cleared a path for Nanny are her father, Isaiah Prophet Stuckey, and her mother, Flora Ella Bembow; one daughter, Flora Jane Nettles; one grandson, Jason Lamar Sheffield; five sisters, Oakley Randolph, Kummie Cobb, Melvina Nelson, Ellamae Stuckey, Aronia Stuckey; and one infant brother.
Loved ones that will miss Nanny until they meet her again are her two children, Ruth Sheffield and Jerrund (Linda) Sheffield; seven grandbabies, Christopher Hogans, Farrah Watson, Marcus Martin, Shavon Nettles, Latoya (Shaun) Reseburg, Nora Figueroa, and Charlene Nettles; fifteen great-grandbabies; five great-great-grandbabies; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, March 4, 2023, beginning at 11:00 a.m., at Saint John African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church, Ponce de Leon, Florida, with Reverend LaTanja Neal officiating.
Arrangements and services are under the direction of Davis-Watkins Funeral Home and Crematory of DeFuniak Springs.
