Norbert Lague Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Memorial Park Funeral Home & Crematory - St. Petersburg on Sep. 9, 2025.
Norbert Lague 88, passed away on September 7, 2025, in Tierra Verde, FL. Born on August 26, 1937, in North Troy, Vermont. He was known for his calm demeanor, sharp wit, and patient approach to life. Norbert's presence was a source of stability and joy for those around him. After spending his youth in Newport, Vermont, Norbert began his distinguished career with the US Border Patrol in Cotulla, Texas, igniting a lifelong commitment to public service. His career took him to Niagra Falls and Champlain, NY before his adventurous spirit and love for the outdoors eventually led him and his family to Haines, AK, where they embraced a wilderness lifestyle. Norbert continued his career in Anchorage as a Naturalization Officer before advancing to Deputy District Director. His professional journey was marked by a passion for travel, visiting many countries and impacting numerous lives along the way. Post retirement Norbert opened the Snowshoe Inn Bed and Breakfast, in Anchorage. There he entertained visitors with tales of the wild, guiding them on many adventures. A proud veteran, Norbert served in the US Navy, a period that greatly influenced his life and values. His dedication to his country was evident in both his military and civil service. Norbert was a man of many interests, including wood turning, hunting, fishing, and gardening. His handcrafted wood gifts are cherished reminders of his skill and thoughtfulness. He was an ardent fan of John Wayne, having watched all of his movies hundreds of times. He was known to quote the Duke when imparting his words of wisdom. Most importantly you could find him at his grandson's baseball and soccer games and his granddaughter's baton twirling competitions and events. A well-traveled individual, he boasted visiting all 50 states and ten Canadian provinces. He was a devout Catholic and attended Blessed Trinity Catholic Church. Norbert is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Monique, daughters Ruth Lague (Barbara) and Lynn Jennings (Mark), beloved grandchildren Casey Jennings (Nicole) and Claire Christian (Brad), and sister Dede St. Onge. He was preceded in death by his twin brother Normand, brother Bertrand, sister Suzanne Grandpre, and parents Florence and David Lague. A private family service to honor Norbert's life will be held at Memorial Park Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Navy Seal Foundation, or Wounded Warrior Project, supporting causes close to Norbert's heart. His legacy of laughter, wisdom, and compassion will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew him.
