Norca Iris James Obituary Of Brunswick, MD on Thursday, March 5, 2026. Devoted mother of Robert James, Darlene Schubert, and the late Carl James; and daughter of the late Carmelo Rosario and Petra Hernandez. She is also survived by many beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a great-great grandchild.

She is remembered for her lifelong service to her community and her faith. Born April 10, 1936, in Guayanilla, Puerto Rico, she was raised in La Playa Guayanilla, where she developed a deep devotion to her faith at an early age. She later attended the University of Puerto Rico, where she studied nursing.

While in Puerto Rico, she met Harold James, whom she married at age 22. The couple later moved to the mainland United States, where they raised their family in Virginia and Maryland. Following their divorce, she settled in Brunswick, Maryland, where she raised her three children as a single mother, instilling in them the values of hard work, compassion and integrity. Ms. James dedicated more than 25 years of her professional life as a geriatric nurse at the

Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Martinsburg, West Virginia, where she was known for her commitment to the veterans and colleagues she served. She was also known in her community for assisting immigrants arriving in the Frederick area. Her faith remained central throughout her life, and she was an active member of her church community. In her free time, she enjoyed gardening and Puerto Rican cuisine and music. A funeral mass will be held at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church in Frederick, Maryland, on April 10 at 11:00 a.m. Norca Iris James
