Noreen Kalien Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Boldt Funeral Home and Cremation Services on Mar. 28, 2026.
Noreen A. (Ulen) Kalien, age 83, of Fredericksburg, TX and formerly of Morristown, MN, died on March 24, 2026, in Fredericksburg, Texas.

Noreen was born on November 8, 1942, in Morristown, MN, to Charles and Johanna (Sorbel) Ulen. She graduated from Morristown High School in 1960.

On April 28, 1962, Noreen was united in marriage to Orman E. Kalien. Together they built a life rooted in faith, family, and hard work, farming in rural Morristown, Kenyon, and Medford until 1988, when they moved to Corpus Christi, Texas. Noreen later worked in the Flour Bluff School District library system and at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi until her retirement in 2006. She and Orman then made their home in Fredericksburg, Texas.

Noreen's life was a reflection of her deep and abiding faith. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who found her greatest joy in caring for others. She poured her time and energy into her children through 4-H and countless activities, and she faithfully served her church communities through women's groups, choir, altar guild, and hospitality ministries. She had a special love for sewing quilts for Lutheran World Relief, and she found joy in simple pleasures-reading, baking, and time spent with family.

She is lovingly remembered by her children: Scott (Julie), Tim (Barbie), Shari (Dave) Zehala, and Melanie Brown; her grandchildren: Mersadi (Juston), Madison, Stephanie (Kevin), Dustin, Tyson (Morgan), Nathan (Amelia), Malia, Jason, Ashleigh, Kaitlyn, Cameron (Kendra), and Jenna; and her great-grandchildren: Maelee, Sophie, Lydia, Etta, Cole, Alexis, and Hailey. She is also survived by her sisters, Maxine Nordmeier and Sandie (Krause) Shaltanis.

Noreen was preceded in death by her husband, Orman; her parents, Charlie and Johanna Ulen; her in-laws Alfred and Elsie Kalien; brothers, Victor (and Iris), Clayton (and Pat), Myron (and Ione) and Ronnie Ulen; sisters, Carol (and Ed) Andersen, Lois (and Gordy) Kramer, Betty (and Curt) Weum, Joanne (and Jerry) Schwichtenberg, and Char (and Maynard) Schroeder; brothers-in-law, Don Nordmeier, Gordie Krause and Dennis Shaltanis, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Noreen will be remembered for her kindness, her lively spirit, her quiet strength, and the steady love she gave so freely to her family and all who knew her.

Visitation will be at Boldt Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Faribault on Monday, April 6, 2026 from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Funeral services will be held at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Morristown on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. The Reverend Weslie Odom will officiate. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery, Morristown following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Resurrection Lutheran Church of Fredericksburg, Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Morristown, the Golden Hub Senior Center of Fredericksburg, or to a charity of one's choice.
