Obituary published on Legacy.com by Maxwell P. Dunne Funeral Service - Yorktown Blvd. on Feb. 5, 2026.
Norma Barrera Reynolds, known affectionately to all as Nana, was a radiant beacon of faith, wisdom, and selfless love. Born on July 11, 1943, in Rios, Texas, she took her first step towards Heaven on February 3, 2026, in
Corpus Christi, Texas. Her spirit remains an indelible force within the hearts of her family and all of those she touched.
Nana's life was a testament to the enduring strength and grace of a woman anchored in Christian faith. We're confident she's rejoicing in Heaven, joining her father Fabricio Barrera Sr., mother Celia Barrera, and beloved brothers Manuel and Homero Barrera (Marta). Nana's memory will continue here on earth through her loving family, brothers Fabricio Barrera Jr. and Arturo Barrera, daughters Dr. Cecilia Reynolds-Perez (Noey) and Priscilla Reynolds-Escobar (Eric), her grandchildren Vanessa Peterson (Zach), Noah Perez (Diana), Samantha Perez, Maria Garza (Robert), Richard Escobar (Heather), John Paul Escobar (Myah) and Michael Escobar, along with her 10 great-grandchildren.
Norma's formative years were spent in the nurturing community of Premont, Texas, where she proudly graduated from Premont High School with the Class of 1961. She stayed in touch with many of her classmates, a continual source of friendship and support.
Nana's professional life was marked by her time at the Kleberg County Courthouse, County Attorney's Office. Her incredible work ethic, dedication and attention to detail as a legal secretary earned the trust of many, including co-workers, elected officials and those in the Kingsville community.
Inspired by Saint Therese of Lisieux, she found joy in the little things others often overlooked...be it a handwritten greeting card, a special recipe or her collection of angels.
Nana's life was a vibrant tapestry of interests and passions. Her love for dancing, baking, cooking, and sewing brought joy to all who were fortunate enough to experience her creations. She designed beautiful, and always matching, handmade dresses that adorned her daughters throughout their childhood. A dedicated fan of the San Antonio Spurs, Texas A&M Aggies and the 1980's mighty Brahma Band, where her daughters performed, she cheered all on with boundless enthusiasm.
To her grandchildren, Nana was more than a grandmother; she was a mentor, a confidante, and a source of endless love. Her role as "Mama" to her daughters was characterized by her nurturing spirit, guiding them to become strong, independent, and faith-based women. Her counsel often included the advice of employing "common sense" in daily decisions, also reminding us that many things in life things cannot be changed, they are "simply political in nature." Nana's legacy as a guiding light will forever illuminate the paths of those she loved dearly.
Her spirit of generosity extended beyond immediate family, as many nieces and nephews fondly referred to her as "Auntie" and "beautiful Aunt Norma." Even friends of her children and grandchildren called her "Nana." Her influence as a wise, faith-filled, and selfless individual was profound and far-reaching.
Norma's late father, Fabricio, referred to her as " La Mas Bonita." While her beauty was evident to all who met her, she remained humble and focused living a life of great faith and service to others. Her beautiful, supple and gentle hands touched many.
Today, as we celebrate Nana's life, we remember a woman whose presence was a gift to us all. She taught us to dance through the storms, to find joy in the simplicity of a delicious hand-cooked meal, and to clothe ourselves in love as intricately as the stitches of her handmade dresses. Norma Barrera Reynolds, our beloved Nana, will forever be cherished as a woman who never wavered in faith even during the trials and brave battles she fought brought about by her complicated illnesses. Her memory will continue to inspire us to live with purpose, to cherish every moment, and to extend kindness to all. She has left this world for her eternal home, but her legacy endures as a beacon of hope and love for generations to come.
We love you Nana. Go rest high on the mountain, for your time on earth has come...
Norma's daughters would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the hard-working staff of Elan Assisted Living and Nurses on Wheels for the personal care they gave to our Mama during recent years. They are truly working-angels! At Elan, Norma met some wonderful friends who shared lively discussions about the Spurs, Cowboys and the Aggies! And one of her friends referred to as the "leveler" of the group because of her "common sense" approach to life. Norma's family will miss her friends at Elan tremendously.
Pall bearers for Norma will be: Noah Perez, Zach Peterson, Richard Escobar, John Paul Escobar, Michael Escobar, Robert Garza, Hector Morin Jr., Rudy Ramirez III, Homer Barrera Jr., Lucas Barrera and Brian Bowers. Honorary pall bearers are Grayson Buehler and Dr. Oscar Reynolds Jr.
A visitation will begin at 10 AM, Saturday, February 7, 2026, at Maxwell P. Dunne Funeral Service on Yorktown Blvd in Corpus Christi, followed by a Rosary at 11 AM and a light food reception at Noon. All are welcome to join the family and friends to then travel to Santo Nino Cemetery in Rios, Texas, for a 3 PM committal graveside service followed by refreshments at Nana's El Cameo Ranch.
