Norma Jean Garcia, age 67, a resident of Los Lunas, NM, passed away on Tuesday, August 22, 2023. She was born on November 13, 1955. As a child, she attended St. Mary's School until the 8th grade, and then graduated from Los Lunas High School.
When Norma was sixteen, she got a job at the egg farm and met a young man named Jakie Garcia, who at the time, was just a neighbor. She soon fell in love with the young man from the egg farm, and together they secretly eloped in Mexico. Later, while the weather and love for each other was burning hot, they officially got married in a Catholic Church establishing their marriage in 1975, and going on to raise two children together. Norma was a wonderful lady with many hobbies. She loved to garden, enjoyed making crafts, fishing, and camping, particularly in Sipapu, NM. She enjoyed watching soap operas, "The Young and the Restless" remaining as one of her favorites. She also took pleasure in visiting casinos with friends and family.
She enjoyed cooking tamales and other New Mexican dishes for her family. One dish, which consisted of macaroni, tomato sauce, and ground beef, although simple, always brought warmth to the soul. She taught her grandkids how to make tortillas which will always be a memory to savor. Norma also loved collecting porcelain dolls and angels. She passed down her beautiful smile and lovely red hair to her family. She had a big heart for her pets and a huge heart for all her kids and grandkids. She wanted everyone to know she loved them and that even if no one else cared, she did.
Norma is preceded in death by her parents Faustino "Pat" and Betty Luna.
She is survived by her loving husband, Jakie Garcia; daughter, Rhonda Garcia; son, Patrick Garcia; grandchildren, Raymond Jr., Savannah, Jessica, and Gabriel Carrasco, Anthony Jake Smith, and Patrick Joseph Garcia; great-grandchild, Zachary Carrasco; siblings, Ronald Luna and Judy Marcus; nephews, Angelo Luna and Marcos Baldonado; niece, Amanda Horton; and her caring uncle, James E. Gutierrez.
Services for Norma will take place on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, at Calvary Chapel Rio Grande Valley, beginning with a Visitation at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Memorial Service at 10:00 a.m., and a Reception to follow at 11:00 a.m. where a potluck will be held to celebrate her life.
Arrangements are being handled by the caring professionals at the Noblin Funeral Service Belen Chapel, 418 W. Reinken Ave., (505) 864-4448, where an online guest register is available at www.noblin.com.
