Norma Jean Hirt, age 88, of Waterville, passed away at her home on Friday, September 19, 2025.

Norma was born on March 29, 1937 in Wetmore, Kansas to Lawrence W. and Melinda B. (Hasenkamp) Lierz, and was one of ten children.

After moving to Marysville to work as a nanny and waitress, Norma married Franklin D. Frerking on December 30, 1957 and they had two children, Shari and Ann. Norma later worked in the Marysville High School cafeteria and retired after 30 years of service.

Norma was predeceased by Frank on September 10, 1985. She married two more times. On June 19, 1987, she married Charlie A. Roepke, who passed away in 2006. On August 17, 2007, she married Donald N. Hirt, who passed away in 2019.

Also preceding Norma in death were seven siblings: brothers Leonard, Leroy, Larry Jr , Walt and Robert Lierz, and sisters Gerri Bramlage and Wilma Ross.

Survivors include her two daughters, Shari Poole of Waterville and Ann (Jess) Gehin of Idaho Falls, Idaho; two sisters, Alberta (Larry) Tanking and Shirley (Orville) Hutfles, both of Holton; two grandsons, Spencer Gehin of Idaho Falls and Devin Poole of Knoxville.

Norma was a member of the Catholic Church, where she served in the Altar Society, but also attended the United Methodist Church and St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Waterville. She was a member of the Waterville Lions Club, Shakespeare Club and the American Legion Auxiliary in Waterville.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 2, 2025, between 6:00 and 8:00 pm, at Christie-Anderes Funeral Home in Waterville.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, October 3, 2025, at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Waterville with Pastor David Thompson officiating. Honorary Bearers are: Mary Jane Cohorst, Robert Cohorst, Joseph Bramlage and Barbara McClain. The inurnment will be at Marysville City Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to Meadowlark Hospice and may be sent in care of Christie-Anderes Funeral Home at PO Box 61, Waterville, Kansas 66548.
