Norma Mays Obituary

Published by Legacy on Mar. 31, 2026.
Norma Jean Mays passed away peacefully on March 24th at the age of 89.

She was preceded in death by her parents- Everette and Katherine.

Siblings- Harold, Patsy, Teddy, and Jim.

Her husband- Logan Mays Jr.,

Sons- Mike and Tony

Grandchildren- Michelle and Lorie.

Sons-in-law- Jim and Buck.

Born on March 6th, 1937, Norma lived in Corinne, WV with her family.

In 1953, she married Logan Mays Jr., and in 1954, she welcomed her first-born son, Al.

Following him were Pam, Mike, and twins Kathy and Tony.

While she was born and spent a lot of her life in WV, in 1974, she finally planted her roots, in New Brighton, MN where she resided for the last 52 years.

She worked on the factory line at Carlson Marketing until she retired at the age of 72.

Norma used to say "if you don't use it, you lose it" which are the words she lived by, as she would walk her 5 miles most days of the week and remained active until the end.

Norma loved all family gatherings, delicious food, Vikings football, Mays poker games, casino trips, bingo, horseshoes, butter, and the occasional beer.

She was the matriarch of our family, the maker of biscuits and gravy, and epitome strength.

This strength was particularly evident during the last year of her life as she fought with everything she had against her illness.

If you knew Norma, you knew that she never sugarcoated anything and told you like it was regardless.

Despite her spitfire attitude, she made many close friends over the years, especially at Brighton Pond, where she lived.

Norma will be profoundly missed by friends, family, and all those fortunate enough to have known her.

She is survived by her children- Al (Cindy) Mays, Pam Coomes, and Kathy Lenzmeier.

Grandchildren- Beck Mays, Alena (Boomer) Longerbone, Kim (Ray) Lilly, Mindy (Dave) Magnuson, Kristina (Joe) Mays, and Jim (Tiffany) Lenzmeier.

Great-grandchildren- Logan, Jaida, Keith, Jon, Aubrey, and Hazel, along with her daughter-in-law, Kathy Criego.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, April 19th, from 2 PM to 6 PM

American Legion Post 566, located at 7731 Lake Dr, Lino Lakes, MN 55014.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the family are preferred.
