Norma McPhail Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 19, 2018.
Norma Ann McPhail, of Wichita, KS passed from this world on December 19, 2018. She was exactly one month shy of her 98th birthday. Norma was born to William John and Nancy Ann (Pompy) Anderson, in Amour, South Dakota on January 19, 1921. She was preceded in death by several family members and friends- as well as her loving husband, Leslie John McPhail-- and 3 of her sons: David, Kenneth, and Warren McPhail, all of KS. She is survived by one son: John (Norman) McPhail and his wife Ruth, of KS; one brother: Robert Anderson, of KS; two daughter-in-laws: Louise McPhail, and Sharron McPhail; nieces: Mary Espinoza and husband, Johnny, and family; Sarah Jane Davis, and husband, Troy, and family; and several other relatives and loved ones-- including 13 living grandchildren: Leslie, David, Kris, Lisa, Karen, Kenny, Julie, Kurt, Matt, Dennis, Aaron, Brooke, and Courtney; and several great, and great great grandchildren. ("Holy Mackerel!", as she would often say.) She was loved and adored by many, whose lives she touched in various ways. She was known for her caring and compassionate heart, her razor sharp wit, her kindness to all, and her wicked sense of humor. She was a listening ear, a keeper of secrets, and a true friend. Many, that knew and loved her, could say she was the one true constant in their lives. She leaves behind those who both celebrate her existence, and mourn the loss of her light on this Earth. She will be missed. Burial will be at White Chapel Cemetery in Wichita, KS, next to her beloved husband, Leslie. Supermarket Flowers Ed Sheeran I took the supermarket flowers from the windowsill I threw the day old tea from the cup Packed up the photo album Matthew had made Memories of a life that's been loved Took the get well soon cards and stuffed animals Poured the old ginger beer down the sink Dad always told me, "don't you cry when you're down" But mum, there's a tear every time that I blink Oh I'm in pieces, it's tearing me up, but I know A heart that's broke is a heart that's been loved So I'll sing Hallelujah You were an angel in the shape of my mum When I fell down you'd be there holding me up Spread your wings as you go And when God takes you back we'll say Hallelujah You're home I fluffed the pillows, made the beds, stacked the chairs up Folded your nightgowns neatly in a case John says…

Grandma, You've been gone almost 3 months. I still miss you every day. I'm so glad you were here with us all the years you were. I miss your letters, and I wish I could hear your voice, laughter, and get your advice. You meant so much to so many. You were the glue that held us all together. The song here says it all. I love and miss you. Karen Leigh

December 19, My sweet Grandmother died. Just another day for many, but to me, a part of my world died. My grandmother was the only one that was always there. She was the only constant in my life. The only one that made sure all was well in my world, and I will miss her terribly. She was the matriarch of our family, and she is the one that kept us all together as one. It seems, my childhood, as I knew it, was gone along with her. Please, if you have someone like this in your family, let them know how much they mean to you before it's too late. I miss her now and I will every day in my future. She was my world. I'm thankful that she knew it.

Grandma in a couple words...love and laughter. My childhood story was being surrounded by grandma and grandpa and my dad and my three uncles. Often many other relatives. Family was important. Anytime grandmas four boys got together there stories told and roaring laughter. There were cigarettes smoked and beer drank and jokes told and memories shared and laughter laughter laughter. All my many cousins and I ran around and played and had a blast. I NEVER had a bad time at grandmas house. Good food, a listening ear, hugs shared and ALWAYS told..... I love you! She always said I held a special place in her heart but I'll bet she told all her grandkids that! She was the most steady, kind, loving human I've ever known. Loved by all. If there is a heaven, she had a mob of loved ones there to greet her. With much love and respect....rip gma. rip
