Norman "Bud" Charles Remund was born on July 22, 1938, in Milbank, Norman spent his entire life on the family farms he dearly loved. Farming wasn’t just his livelihood, it was his passion, his purpose, and the place where he felt most at home. He took great pride in being a thoughtful and skilled farmer, always looking for ways to improve the land and the work to which he devoted himself.
Norman graduated from Wilmot High School in 1956 and married Rosa Lynne Hines on September 21, 1958. Together, they raised five children and built a life filled with dedication, hard work, and the joy of family. After Rosa Lynne’s passing, Norman married Linda Steinlicht on March 17, 2019. Their marriage brought new companionship, love, and a blended family Norman welcomed wholeheartedly.
A man who embraced every task with care, Norman found joy in tending his fields, his gardens, his well-kept yards, and even the cemetery lawns. He had a talent for cooking, baking pies, and canning the bounty of his garden. Hosting meals for friends and family brought him great happiness, and he treasured the time spent making lefse with the cancer group. His creativity often led him to design or invent machinery to make farming tasks more efficient—a true testament to his ingenuity and love for the work.
Norman also gave generously of his time and wisdom to his community. He served 26 years on the school board and contributed to the Lake Township Board, the COOP Board, the Wilmot Lutheran Church Board, the Wilmot Improvement Association, and delivered Meals on Wheels. He was a member of Wilmot Lutheran Church and Living Word Church.
Norman is survived by his wife, Linda Remund of Wilmot, SD; his children, Charles (Mary) Remund of Elkton, SD; Kim Remund of Wilmot, SD; Barbara (Steve) Wetrosky of Brandon, SD; John (Missi) Remund of Wilmot, SD; and James (Natalie) Remund of Wilmot, SD; 14 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by Linda’s children: Nicole (Doug) Tyrrell of Taylor, ND; Scott (Carrie) Steinlicht of Brookings, SD; Brian (Gina) Steinlicht of Arcadia, WI; Melinda (Seth) Sandau of Wallace, SD; and Jeremiah Steinlicht of Volga, SD; along with 13 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Additionally, Norman is survived by 25 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Clarence and Ada Remund; his first wife, Rosa Lynne Remund; his parents-in-law: Harold and Ruby Hines; siblings: Merlys (Dale) Lewis, Dale (Anita) Remund, and John (Jean) Remund; brother-in-law, Kelly Hines; great-grandson, Myles Isaac Hageman; and one niece.
Norman will be remembered for his steadfast work ethic, his gentle kindness, and the deep pride he took in caring for both the land and the people he loved. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished and the community he served so faithfully.
Memorial may be sent to Wilmot Lutheran Cemetery or the Wilmot Cancer Care Team.
