Norman Dawson Carney, Jr. "Butch" of Dover passed away Friday, October 24, 2025, at Medstar Georgetown University Hospital, Washington D.C. He was 73.
Mr. Carney was born, March 22, 1952, in Wilmington, Delaware, son of the late Cordelia and Charles Rochford, Sr.
Norman graduated from Caesar Rodney High School in 1971 and attended Delaware State University. He owned and operated his own general contracting business, ABC Construction. Retiring in 2024. Mr. Carney enjoyed watching all Philly sports and at one time raced motorcycles winning the "Top Bike Eliminator" for Delmar Raceway in Delaware. He loved music his favorite saying was "Bad to the Bone". Mr. Carney loved spending time with family, friends, and especially his grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother-in-law Alan Silberski and nieces Heather Ridgway and Alexandra Rochford.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Patricia "Patty" Neal Carney of Dover; daughter, Erin Carney Redick and her husband David of Dover; siblings, Joan Silberski of Lake Wales, FL, Gregory Carney and his wife Barbara of Smyrna, Dinita Ridgway and her husband Floyd "Perky" of Cheswold, Lisa Rochford of Dover and Charles Rochford, Jr. "Marty" and his wife Kim of Dover; grandchildren, Hunter and Stephanie Redick of Dover.
Funeral services will be held 2PM, Sunday, November 2, 2025, at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover. A viewing will be held from 1-2PM.
For those unable to attend the funeral service, there will be a livestream of the service at
www.torbertfuneral.com. It can be found under the "Upcoming Livestreams" tab and
viewed by clicking on his name.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to Doggone Happy Animal Rescue, Inc., PO Box 596, Greenwood, DE 19950.
