Norman Descoteaux Obituary

Published by Legacy on Aug. 15, 2025.
BOSTON: Norman J. "Moe" Descoteaux, 90, passed away peacefully at his home on August 7, 2025

Born in Haverhill to the late Clovis and Mathilda (Chisholm) Descoteaux, Norman is survived by his twin sister Norma Siwacke of Newburyport, MA as well as many loving nieces, nephews, great nieces, and nephews. He is predeceased by his brother Robert Descoteaux of Ocala, FL, and Theodore Descoteaux of Groveland, MA.

After graduating from St. James High School in Haverhill, Norman went on to spend many years at BMT, Boston & Main Transportation, in an administrator capacity. He also spent several years at Harvard Business School assisting with Business Cases and the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston recording and cataloging Artifacts.

Norman was a fitness fanatic who enjoyed biking, walking, and working out at the YMCA. He enjoyed walking the Marginal Way in Ogunquit with his sister Norma. Most recently they spent 3-4 days a week together visiting family and friends, going to lunch, and walking along their favorite seashores.

Being a highly intelligent and creative man, he quickly learned to make beautiful, glazed pottery pieces which he shared with all his family. He also loved attending Broadway shows in NYC, watching British Comedy and Silent Films. He knew every Director and could speak to most any of their movies and films. Norman also enjoyed all types of music from Dyland to John Prime to Patsy Cline and loved all the classic country songs.

Norman had a zest for life and adventure and became a worldwide traveler who often went on solo trips abroad including Spain, Portugal, Copenhagen, and Turky to name a few. But his favorite places to visit were right here in NYC, Provincetown, Key West and St. Pete, FL. He enjoyed many winters traveling to Florida to visit with family and friends. He loved good conversations and was a great listener. He gathered with many friends at the local Starbucks in Boston on a regular basis to talk about current affairs, what was going on in Boston, and in each of their lives.

Norman was a good man, full of love, caring and empathy who always had an optimistic outlook on life. He left a positive impression on everyone who had the pleasure of meeting him. Norman will be missed beyond words but will forever live in our hearts and memories.

Arrangements under the direction of Dole, Childs & Shaw Funeral Home, 148 Main St., Haverhill will be private with inurnment at Holy Angles Cemetery. Messages of condolence may be sent to www.dcsfuneralhome.com.
